Ordered this beauty back in May and was finally able to pick it up. I'd like to share my thoughts.
53' Stepdeck 28370 payload, 21k empty
1. Price isn't horrible, but compared to a semi-trailer, this isn't what I was hoping for.
2. Should have really looked at custom-built semi-trailers such as Doonan to see if I could get this in a combo (lighter weight than all steel, with a heavier build)
3. Almost completely useless toolboxes, why would I order extra boxes for my tarps, when they don't fit (was told they would fit by dealer.)
4. Gooseneck trailer manufacturers really should think about looking at semi-trailers to improve their products.
5. Really wish trailer dealers would look at how people are using their trailer and allow us to make the most of it. Warranty is a pain if I have to modify the trailer to use it how it is intended in the first place.
6. Air-ride should not dump the whole system, tanks included (what dip stick thought this up?)
7. Why aren't my tires torqued to spec, tires to proper inflation, battery charge fuse not blown and brakes bled when I pick up a brand new trailer in the first place?
Yes, I own a semi, we are restoring it currently, it will get it's own stepdeck and detach when it's ready.

Speaking to part 6, i prefer that, its fail-safe, allowing you to make sure the trailer doesnt settle if you have a load on, potentially collapsing landing gear from pushforward if not attached (though in fairness this is more an issue on standard flats not steps)

A 9 month wait, I was way off,,,
WildTiger1990 and Chieftains Thank this. -
What brand is that?

That thing weighs 21,000 lbs empty? That can’t be right.
Can’t recall who but I know I’ve seen semi-trailer/5th wheel hitch step decks for little trucks before. -
All trailers are poorly prepped at the stealership , or not prepped at all, and the factory just throws the wheels and lights in the general direction of the trailer
As for the stealership not knowing what you want to use the trailer for , or what to spec it as . That’s on you to know .
Your trailer has hydraulic brakes ?
and air bag suspension ?
Did it come with its own air compressor ? -

That's gross weight, with equipment and truck included. The trailer weighs more than the "real" stepdeck I used to pull behind a Pete. It is approximately 13k.

They knew exactly what I wanted and how I wanted it spec'd, they refused to do most of what I wanted and they knew exactly what its purpose was. It was just pure laziness, trying to make a sale. Semi-trailer manufacturers are so much better to deal with than any gooseneck manufacturer. The gooseneck trailers are fairly cookie-cutter, unlike actually getting something how you want it with a company such as Doonan.
Yes, I have hydraulic disc brakes and air suspension with front lift axle, yes they come with a compressor, but I have air bags on truck too, so it has it's own supply.Last edited: Feb 24, 2022
