I have new air dryer. And my compressor is only a year old if that. When the compressor is bypassing the dryer is constantly sputtering out the purge valve. Sounds loud and obnoxious. When it starts to fill the tanks back up it quits and is quiet like it’s supposed to be. At first I changed the purge valve, then governer and cartridge and nothing worked so I bought an entire new dryer assembly. Still doing it. When I went to connect the gov back I noticed the elbo connection coming off of it, (1/4 in I’d I think) that goes to the unloader? Maybe? It was blocked off, as if the elbow was basically a plug. I’m not sure why. Is that the cause. When I unhooked it and straight piped it in, everything kinda acted funny. I had a blown gasket on the unloader and went ahead and hooked it back the way it was. Other than the annoying sputter everything acts normal. Is the line coming off gov going to unloader supposed to be open all the way thru? Idk why it’s hooked like this. I bought it this way

what kind of engine do you have?

You should put fittings and plugs exactly as they were.
Dino soar Thanks this. -
Are you 100% sure its coming from the purge port?
I've seen the air supply line into the compressor get a hole in it and whenever the compressor unloaded it made a rattlesnake kind of sound.Dino soar Thanks this. -

Yes I put my hand under the purge valve and can feel it.

This is how it was to begin with. I never put any type of closed fitting in. Or I wouldn’t have made the thread to find out why. I’ve replaced the compressor and the entire dryer assembly and it’s still doing it. I’m not sure.
