We went through an update in our area recently with Alltel. You know the reprogram the entire phone update, by dialing *228 and selecting the options that you want to update. Did I mention this was a forced update, in the middle of the week. They basically hi-jacked the phone until you did the requested update. Hubby and I both did the updates, well guess what?

They didn't tell you that you have to be in your home calling area to perform the update, and hubby wasn't home when he did his. So now, he can make calls, but cannot receive them. He has to go to an alltel store to get the phone reprogrammed, so that he can receive calls.

According to Alltel, they have been having problems with these new updates all day. So beware, if you are going to update your phone, you must be in your home calling area to do so.

He missed a pretty sweet load today because of this garbage. :biggrin_25510:

Remember last week or so when Hubbys phone didnt work and he had to do an update yada yada yada, Alltell even tried to say they had sent us a letter about it! That darn phone is so vital to us I wouldn't have ever ignored that info....now that they are in with verizon and the changes are supposedly done I HOPe things get better but I am NOT holding my breath!!!

We have phones from alltell but they are prepaid, and after the switch and they joined verizon we dont have to do wierd redial when on roam now but we cannot call a verizon phone without losing minutes, so much for that update, i guess with prepaid we dont have to update our phones anyway wever never been told to.

    Welcome to Verizon Wireless.

My last contract is just about up, so if VW doesn't meet my expectations, I may just have to check out some other wireless company.

So there's so much extra garbage on cell phones that they require updates now? I've never heard of that before. Mine gets updated by buying a new phone and switching my number to it.

Has your hubby tried going to the nearest Alltel store and getting this issue resolved. I have Alltel and you have me a tad nervous lol.

Worse case scenario I would head to Verizon, sign up for a new contract and see what floats. Sure hope us Alltel users don't become the neglected red haired step children of Verizon! For the most part I have been very happy with Alltel.

The phones we were issued at work, were the cheap motorolas that are usually free with a two year contract. Anyway, every now and then, we were instructed to do the *228 to upgrade the software in the phone so it would be recognized by more cell towers, and wouldn't show up as a roaming call.

My personal phone is a smartphone, and it updates on its own.

I have the letters they sent. BUT, they showed up AFTER the phone hi-jack.

AND, they didn't say anything about having to be in your home calling area.

Here's the funny thing. He can recieve texts, but when you dial him, it says:

Your call cannot be completed as dialed.

He's not anywhere near an Alltel store (sitting waiting for a load) so we are just dealing with it.

It just started at 4pm yesterday.

So when he gets home this afternoon, we will be going to the Alltel store.

    Its just infuriating.

Ok, so now the phone doesn't work in places that it did work. Cannot get any signal. Took it in to the office, she played with the phone for a bit, and handed it back to me and said it should be good to go. Well, its not. This transition with Verison is not going well. :biggrin_25510:

I suspect they might be doing it on purpose to up their own phone sales.
