Came outside to check my truck over for the work week and tire about flat. I spray the tire to fine a leak and no leak in tire. So I spray all over the tire rim and see a hairline crack in my wheel about 2" up from the outside lip. Is this something I can have welded and fixed ? The crack it self is about. A half inch long. I have know idea as to how it go there no damage to rim anywhere.this is a big wheel 425/65/22.5 wheel. Something all the time . Thanks mike

Yes you can get it tig welded. Might run you upto one bill, depending on your location.
-
rim welding is not legal in Europe, becouse it is dabgerouse.
You can use tig weld one crack and you cant see the other. Static pressure inside tire is 100-120 PSI, stress pressure when tire is hot and runs over bumps may be many times higher!
so welded rim is dangerouse -
welding a rim in usa is also illegal, its a steer wheel dont be stupid-get a new wheel.Heavyd, lovesthedrive and SL3406 Thank this.

used rim is about $100 here
-
that is the reason i asked .
..i have never had this happen before and was looking for some help from someone that has ....and as far as a used wheel i have called all over and nobody has 1 and if they did its 350.00
so i may just have to go with steel wheels for a 100.00 each... thanks mike

Any truck salvage should have used aluminum wheels. I am converting all my steels to aluminum 125.00ea polished.. Just got to find time to replace the wheel studs.
-
Dont forget after installing aluminum wheels to get them retorqued after 5 days. Aluminum has a funny way of loosening on you. Saw it alot at where I used to work.
-
5 days?? Or 5 hours?
-
Yes Earthmover I would put a steel rim there and get going and then you have time to find another aly rim to replace it and keep the steel one as spare.
The wheel nut is going to onto the stud a lot deeper with the steel rim, remember
To clean the threads with a wire brush.
