Have a good local job, home every night, off 1 day per wk. my commute is 63 miles each way. Make $850 avg take home every week. Still missing the road. Have I lost my mind? I know this money is not likely OTR, but I am still thinking about it. :biggrin_2551:

Nope! I am in the same boat. I just hired on recently at a Large furniture company with 7 outlying stores, and I am making pretty decent money supervising building maintenance techs.........or supposed techs. It's like babysitting my kids all over again.

I have a friend that manages a small fleet. The sent a bid in on a dedicated account and will need 3 new drivers if they land it. I would make about 250 less per week, but would be 100% happier with driving a truck 4 days a week to NC/SC.

Hi mitrucker, I don't know if you're crazy, as many people that live in rural areas have no choice but to drive long distances to work. 63 miles is a tad long and then drive all day (or night), but not unheard of. I did it for a while. I think there are OTR jobs that would pay more, and you wouldn't be wearing out your 4 wheeler and gas, but is an entirely different job, and just be ready for that. Kiss your family life good-bye, if that's an issue. Some make it work. Again, make sure that what you want, as you'll probably won't be able to go back. Local jobs are pretty scarce nowadays. Good luck.

have you been told that you are? concerned?

all joking aside, the 6 day work week is a bit much if you can get a job making a little more and be home on the weekends.

    Shaggy Thanks this.

Single? Enjoy solitude? Don't care if you get home regularly? Want to spend a long while away from the race? Don't care how much money you make (as opposed to how much you'll save)? If you're crazy, then I am too. Well, I'm pretty sure I'm crazy. :)

I'm looking forward to being OTR full time, w/out a home, car, and associated bills. But it's got to be a way of life that you might enjoy. But one may never know without experiencing it first hand. What's to lose?

From all I've read, the ones that enjoy OTR the most, are the ones that would do it even if the pay sucked (or sucked more).

I still miss OTR and running team. I wouldn't go back from my local job, but I only have to drive 19 miles to work. That's a lot of gas and maintenance on your dime.
