So I don't know much at all about peaking and tweeking or walking the dog but, local CB repair man is always advertising 50, 75 or 100 watt upgrades that go inside your radio that help with output (obviously) and reception. Now I always understood that more power only helps with output not receiving. Am I wrong? Aside from good properly tuned antenna and coax I thought that was pretty much all I could do on my end to receive.??
Amp and better reception??

I've not seen a CB amp that ever claimed to improve reception. There are some ham radio VHF amps that include a receive pre-amp, but I've never seen anything like that from any of the screwdriver tech CB amp builders. It 's unlikely they would help even if they exist.

Is that the mobile cb shop that is currently in Sioux City Iowa? They were in Van Horn Tx for years then Mitchell SD and it is actually a woman that you hear if it is the same business, but like CW Spook already commented on, no I have never heard of the receive being improved with the addition of an amp whether it be installed in the radio or hooked up externally.Last edited: May 18, 2017

not true some amps have a pre amp switch that pulls in reception although some just pull in extra static/noise.

Her husband is undergoing cancer treatment that is why they move around. I questioned her one day about how she tunes the radio after installing the stinger board ( since she is mobile) whether or not she used a scope or an analyzer and she really didnt seem prepared to answer question with any level of competency, I wouldnt pay to have one of my radios hacked, just my opinion, and if the stinger/amp device does have a built in preamp it is my understanding that a preamp only intensifies the incoming signal( primarily static and white noise) and does not necessarily draw in far away stations.rabbiporkchop and lester Thank this.

Improved reception would be having good clean grounds, power wire straight to the battery, good quality coax like tram flex black shielded, (not truck stop junk) and a quality antenna . I'm personally a fan of the predator 10k which hears better than any Wilson or tram antenna I've owned, it also can tune very low swr's, very little reflect and it's tough and lightweight.
