California:
"Well, I gotta defend Ca. as far as trucking goes. There are probably only 3 or 4 low over passes in the whole state. The lanes are wide enough for trucks and parking is plentiful, IF, you know how to find it."
Yes, the bridges and underpasses are higher.
The lanes are wide enough unless you are in one of the several construction areas, with multiple weaving lines showing last month's, last week's, and todays lane lines.
There are areas where it seems nobody speaks English. 99 Is like driving through a giant slum. 55 s*cks. 40 feet kingpin to rear axle s*cks. Outrageous fines for any violation ("penalty assessments" more than double any fine).
Seems like a trailer parked in or around LA is sure to get tagged. Some companies discourage or prohibit fueling in LA.
Smog.
People pushing carts selling oranges on narrow roadways (like Cherry Ave in Fontana, heading over I-10).
Lots of oblivious, inconsiderate, and/or unlicensed drivers. Lots of people who like to merge without a signal at about 30-40 mph, without looking, then start to accelerate, can't parallel park (schools don't provide drivers' ed, and I think I heard that it is not on the road test).
No truck stop in San Diego, the 8th largest city in the US.
Landscape maintenance is like nowhere.
Brown boxes right next to each other in every newer-developed area.
But hey - beautiful areas, weather, beaches.
Not my favorite state to drive in, and I live here.
Just my 2¢ -
I hate any city or state I have to deliver into when there's snow on the ground, a tight blindside back off the narrow street to the dock and a receiver with an attitude.

Jack Smithton, FYI, there's a Pilot at the 905/805 split plus a fuel stop/truckstop in National city. Parking is plentiful off Miramar Rd. in San Diego (the industrial area) inbetween the I-15 and the 805. And plenty more in various areas. Now, Riverside County has really turned into Anti-truck as far as parking is concerned. Fontana is very truck friendly. 55 MPH means 60 is OK for trucks. (not 61).
