I've been driving a tractor trailer for almost 24 years. I currently haul for a grocery wholesaler that runs tractors that are governed at 62mph (for the most part).
Here's my situation : I'm cruising westbound on the PA turnpike around 8:00am on Friday morning at the exit 57 milepost (Pittsburgh). Anyone familiar with this section of road knows it's uphill and traffic is heavy at that time of the day. I'm rolling along in the slow lane, surprisingly the people that were anticipating to pass me were quite a ways back. I notice a "big hammer" propane tanker preparing to merge on the pike, so I move over to let him proceed. I'm aware that he's banging through the gears to build speed (black smoke out his pipes). The nose of his tractor gets right beside my trailer and I already have my right turn signal flashing so he knows my intentions to move over, but I didn't want to cut him off (I probably could have but I make it a habit to exercise safety at all times). The, ummmm, GUY of course has to show me the capabilities of his truck and refuses to let me over. Naturally the cars that were in the passing lane are freaking out because I can't go over 62 and I'm "hung out to dry".
I sarcastically thanked the other driver on the CB for screwing me. His reply? "I'm here to make money, not friends." I thought that was a completely unprofessional maneuver on his part.
What do you guys think?
An Interesting Situation

And that's why so many people won't get over for merging traffic a holes like that . I mean it is their job to merge after all not yours
daf105paccar, Ken Worth, SHO-TYME and 7 others Thank this. -
I think that even though he is out there to "make money", like no one else driving is doing it to make money, there is a something called common courtesy, or professional courtesy. Then again I remember when I first started driving if you saw a truck broke down on the side of the road you saw another one stopped to help.
Big Don, OldHasBeen, Pintlehook and 1 other person Thank this. -
You opened yourself up to the situation by moving left. Not sure why one second you wanted to be nice and give him room and then next second you want to come back right in front of him. Don't be pressured by four wheelers. I was just out there last week and they have no regard for laws. 75 in a 55 is how they drive.
You drive a castrated truck so get used to it.truckon and Straight Stacks Thank this. -
If you have to drive like an ### to make money your doing something wrong many of these driver attitude problems could be solved if these guys got laid once in a while I blame women for not putting out more they are shirking their duty and causing unsafe environment on the roadways . Hehe
Rick Brown and Pintlehook Thank this. -
Then again maybe being an *** keeps them from getting laid

Hi Pintlehook, I realize you were trying to be a nice person and do the right thing, however, in today's world, you kind of cut your own throat, as PNDB sez. Remember, the traffic on the ramp has to yield to YOU on the roadway. Like Straight Stacks sez, you drive something with long legs, that's not an issue, but with a cut-back truck, it's a different set of rules. Besides, tanker dude was probably having a bad day. That's trucking. Thanks for trying to be courteous, but next time, I'd stay right where I am, and anybody who knows, knows you have a governed truck and there's not much you can do. That's how I'd think, anyway. ( stupid governed trucks, nothing but a hazard)
Mudguppy, flyingmusician, mhyn and 1 other person Thank this. -
I felt no pressurefrom the 4 wheelers, I couldn't care less about them.
Let's say YOU were driving the big hammer and I cut you off? What would your reaction have been?
I pulled over as a courtesy. I'd like to think the trucker "brotherhood" is still alive, but I guess I'm wrong. -
If my truck ran 75 he no doubt would have accelerated to 80 to leave me hanging. Lol. Unbelievable.
