Ok guys, i know its probably one of the worse times in recent history to do it.... But im considering buying a truck and flatbed and hauling out of the houston area (top flatbed market in the country). On my own authority. Starting with load boards then falling into wherever the wind blows.
Can you guys throw real numbers at me on how much insurance, ect and all the hidden little things come up to that pick your pocket broke.
I intend on picking up a mid 2010s glider with a perferably pre eld motor.
    Put it on me

Every glider i see advertised is ready for an overhaul and they want $80K for it.

Think anyone that would buy one of those needs their head examined.

And since they're gliders, most have a pre eld engine, which means it's the better part of 20 years old, or more. That in turn means it's most likely been overhauled twice and could very well need a major this time. So now a $20,000 in frame just jumped to $30,000... right outta the gate.

Buying a glider around 10 years old you better plan on needing engine work, could be anywhere from 20 to over 40k dollars right there. If I were going to buy a glider it'd be a new one, and do a complete rebuild of whatever brand you're going to stick under the hood.

EVERYWHERE in Texas sucks for flatbed. You can find a route that pays $2 pm. But they're rare. Texas is like Florida just not as bad. But still a no go state. You can find a decent rate to go in. But youre gonna eat it coming out. I attcahed a dat pic of loads in Houston. 21. All pay crap Screenshot_20200621-230927_Load Board for Truckers.jpg

    now as for costs.
    Authority $300
    Irp $1800
    Ucr $75
    2290 $600 or so
    Drug consortium $25-100 per month
Insurance in Texas is expensive. 1st year youre looking at aroind 20k maybe even 30k. I got lucky with where I live got mine for 11k
Bookkeeping I use quick books $35 month
Fuel. I have a pete 389 long hood. Avergae 6 mpg. I spend about 700-1200 week on fuel depending on how many miles/how heavy my loads are using the nastc fuel card
I put 15% away for maintenance/buying a new truck fund

All I can think of off the top of my head I'm sure I'm missing something

farmerjohn64, Coffey, OTR--247 and 2 others Thank this.
