Sprayer with Diesel will do it. But we have very little to no experience with it in true winter. It's that time we stay home waiting until end of march or so. In our blacktop work, we did not work winters. There is no point.

I agree diesel works great with asphalt but don’t see how it would work on other materials and on state jobs diesel is not allowed at least not in Kansas

Diesel works pretty good with snow too.

Not allowed in PA either, but that never stopped us when I hauled hot mix for awhile a few years ago....lol. We were just very discreet.

Times sure have changed though. Back in the early 90's, in my first stint with hot mix, the tri-axles we ran had a draw right from the fuel tank. The hose and nozzle hung on the back of the cab, and we'd just spray away.

On city and private jobs yes sir we’d spray away on state jobs I guess they didn’t trust us they would have a inspector at the plant watching the spray down rack also another one checking the temp as we dumped in The buggy.. I’d still spray my dove tail and soak the bed after the last load so it would all clean out in the next load of rock hauled which was usually my first load the next morning

The reason they don't want the diesel in in the beds is because it causes the asphalt to separate and when that happens the asphalt company has to redo the entire area that separates are their expense. Old Castle will ban trucks for life if they catch you using diesel. They have unmarked vehicles watching everything. The plants use a type of glycerin/ soap now that they spray in the bed just before you load. It's $80.00 a gallon

They used something like that when I was hauling there years ago but either it was to dillauted or just didn’t work well if it sit in the bed for any length of time

The new stuff seems to work from what I've seen when I go in and out of the plants. I don't see the drivers spraying down with diesel or in their beds beating the crap out.
