Hopefully, this is in the right section, and hopefully there aren't multiple topics on this subject, but I have something that just erks the hell out of me.
Length of experience & becoming a trainer!
Years ago, when I was with CR England, they tried to get me to become a trainer. At the time, I had about 1 year of experience. I told them I felt that I didn't have enough experience to be training others. I was looking for an excuse, and this one fit me to a "T" because it was true.
They then tried talking me into it, and telling me that they allow drivers with 6 months of experience become trainers. A few weeks later, I walked out on them. 13 years or so later, I still wouldn't train!
My question is, are you a trainer, and if so, how much OTR experience do you have?
Are you a trainer?

6-months & they make them trainers? No wonder the industry is going to HE## in a hand basket
-
That was all Swift required back in 1999 for a driver to become a trainer. I know, because I ended up with a 6 month wonder for my first trainer.
-
I train, and I've got about 7 years total. Been in and around it pretty much all my life though.

I think 5 or 6 years and you can be a trainer provided you records speaks volumes. You know no accidents, tickets or other violations....trained my partner (I had 6 years in, I was an O/O)but that was back when we didn't have CDL and the "outside" groups watching our every movement.
6 months....oh yeah that makes a world of sense.....

I had almost 20 years when I started training, lasted less than 8 months. I quit training when it was made known to me, students would pass, would get their own truck, and my opinion mattered not one bit.

Like I said.
Then drivers can't figure out why dumb old cops like me used to get frustrated when their job becomes endless. -
Yes, but like you. We always get a good laugh from time to time from these guys.
It never makes the DOA's easier. But it is good for a chuckle some times.
And while we get hit with the perverbial "You ain't gonna believe this" comment. I'm sure that phrase was heard just as often in your line of work.psanderson Thanks this. -

No I'm not a trainer nor will I be. I don't have the personality for it. Years ago I used to work for Greyhound behind the counter. They had a policy where you had to drive for them at least 10 years to be even considered to be a trainer.
