I'm not gonna lie, it seems no matter how smart I think I am that brass ring eludes me most weeks. I've been O/O for almost 3 years now and I seem to be breaking even but not really what I would call 'profitable'. I've thought often about going fully independent, but I realize I still have a lot to learn about everything.
Bakerman, OldeSkool, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this. -
Am I leased, do I have my own authority, both does that make sense? lol
I have my own, but I am not running the truck insured under my name, it is really only insured to keep it active. The truck I am running I have leased on to a very small mom and pop carrier.
Now, was august profitable, again, that would be both. My authority is losing 700 a month. My leased truck I only ran the first 4 days of the month, but turned a small profit even including the other loss.
The answer to these types of questions are never simple.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
When you're green you're growing, when you're ripe you're dead.
You should always be learning.
Lot of money to be made out here.
Good luck.Rideandrepair, Long FLD, Midwest Trucker and 2 others Thank this. -
Well I've bounced a few oo carriers now on number 4 in my year if being a oo leased to a carrier.
I was @ over 2.07 last year 2018 all miles net flatbed. Which I didn't know was good, I wanted more well I didn't find more lol.
Now I'm like 1.90 now currently net. So still making money and getting the truck paid down. I acquired a flatbed trailer a couple months ago which is paid for, an older one but still gets the job done.
Trying out this carrier I'm with now, gonna try different areas to see if rates get better. I am thinking about doing it though.Midwest Trucker Thanks this. -
I was a company driver for 9yrs before a truck pretty much fell into my lap. It was already leased on at a company and I got a 3% loan from the credit union. I told myself (and everyone else) that I'd become an owner when I was "sure I wouldn't fail". I've almost had to eat my words a couple times. I keep the Tabasco and salt handy just in case that day happens....Bakerman, Crude Truckin', Long FLD and 1 other person Thank this. -
You're pretty honest about your ventures. I dont think anybody wants to admit it if they weren't profitting, even though we all know how this works. I've said before many drivers embellish their wages. Many owners embellish their rate or successMidwest Trucker, Dino soar, HoneyBadger67 and 1 other person Thank this.

Just like any other businesses, it take awhile and even longer to get your reputation out there. It’s a hands on job when you start and and keep going. Do what you can on your own (services wise). I’m a one truck operation. I don’t want the headaches/stress dealing with drivers. When’s there’s work, I give it 110% and the company’s I haul for know it. When it’s slow, I enjoy the time off and kick it.
Crude Truckin' and HoneyBadger67 Thank this. -
Leased to a carrier on percentage and mostly haul contract loads for dedicated customers.
The fire of last year has died off to 17 rates and still doing well but I wont make the money did last last year .
I'm not worried about going broke lol .fordconvert, wore out, Midwest Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
There are enough tall tales out here about how successful drivers are, enough loudmouths, braggarts and flat-out liars. I've done a lot of crazy stuff in my years and never once felt the stories needed embellishing. I'm too flippin old to change how I present myself now...LoLCrude Truckin', Diesel Dave, bryan21384 and 2 others Thank this.
