When taking the skill test. I know you are allowed 2 free get out and looks. If you get out a 3rd time is it just points docked or automatic failure? An also what about hitting a cone?
Thanks
Automatic failures

i believe you are allowed as many get out and looks as you want, but only one pull up.
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
It's ONE free GOAL/pull-up for straight back and TWO free GOALs/pull-ups for the rest of the maneuvers. You just get points taken off for any additional GOALs/pull-ups.
P.S. It may depend on each state.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Depends on the state. Minnesota, once you stop you are done. You can pull up as many times as you want, you have 5 mins to park it. But once you set the brake, its over. Also, the only "automatic fail" is shifting/stopping on RR tracks (other than getting into an accident of course). But most trucks have automatics now, so this isnt an issue.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

That's what I thought. If you hit a cone its just a point also right? I'm in indianaAnother Canadian driver Thanks this.

Yes, the number of points lost I don’t know.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

For my test (in Mississippi), it was an automatic fail for hitting a curb, not using blinkers, and not following directions; that could mean what the tester is telling you to do or where the tester is telling you to go.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

And of course don’t speed!!Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

a automatic can shift crossing RR tracks
.. an automated can'tAnother Canadian driver Thanks this. -
In my state, you get one GOAL and one pull up for the straight line. You get two GOALs and two pull ups for the rest of the maneuvers. Each additional pull up/GOAL costs one point. Hitting a cone costs 2 points. You can lose 12 points and still pass.
Other common auto fails- hitting a curb, exiting the vehicle unsafely (3 points of contact, facing the truck). Also the air brake test is pass/fail, it must be done exactly.Last edited: May 11, 2022
