Another company has announced plans to go to Mars using an E-M Drive. This is what I mean an ANNOUNCEMENT is IMMEDIATELY assumed to be on the road and putting everyone out of work soon. Airplanes are automated +someone is working to automates cars = we'll be unemployed soon. Ignore the fact airliners still use minimum of 2 pilots and are kept 3 miles/1000 feet away from other planes = automated trucks inches apart everywhere. How can continued use of 2 expensive pilots with tons of automation & infrastructure not suggest removing the last operator in a much more complex operation sooner is sci-fi?

There are no autonomous airplanes in commercial service delivering passengers or freight and won't be for foreseeable future, despite all the fantasy of Popular Science readers.

driverless trucks will be taking our jobs just like flying cars have turned our skies dark for the last 50 years.

Think I can find a whole bunch of stories on recent drone deliveries of freight.

Granted, not much of a payload, but then again, the Wright brothers started small too.

Edit, forgot the ground drones running around in London. In some sense, driverless trucks are already here.

This is the news that has me most convinced. Elon/Tesla is willing to risk big money and fail but no way Ford is.

The way I think of this, is by the autonomous driving comes around, we're gonna have alot more to worry about -- like mad max type of stuff.

We could always do terminator 2 type stuff....like destroy the prototype autonomous truck...

First one to quit the industry because of driverless trucks wins, I suppose. Not one airplane passenger has ridden in an pilot-less airliner but airline automation is PROOF trucks will be driver-less soon.

automated flying is 100 times easier than automated driving and automated passenger flying has never happened yet automated driving is doomed. Technology is a religion for some people.

The first time one of those delivery drones lands on someones head the lawyers have the last word and if they keep upping the training requirements for drivers you'll all be doctors before you see the first self driving 18 wheeler. :)
