Avoiding DOT inspections

    My mentors told me to keep everything neat, tied down with nothing flapping or like grandma should be riding on top. Nothing on the dash and nothing but road grime. So far that and well maintained equipment has worked for me.

    As far as inspections keep everything clean inside and out. Don't look like you just rolled out of your bunk. Never give them an chance to ponder whether or not something needs to be measured. Use plenty of straps or chains on your flatbeds and if there is an overhang at all flag it. A state trooper once told me he liked seeing straps taped up with black tape. I have done it ever since.

    No that would be when the money flows the OTHER way.

    You don't get extra money for BEING inspected, you get money for PASSING.

    We should be thanking them officers who do those inspections, nothing wrong with quotas, it keeps them busy and if they do plenty they know what they are doing, getting trash off the road. Sometimes I would love to crawl around with them doing the inspection, it could be a good learning experience. Them hearing all the groans from a older fart getting down and inspecting the inspector. then the problems of getting back up could be comical, heck next they will start doing physicals on us on the road.

    Tire tread depth, brake pads, slack adjusters, lights, high beams, windshield wipers (with water squirt), abs, air leaks (with & with out brakes applied), oil leaks (iffy and up for discretion), secruememt, logs, and paperwork of course. Clean dash, good reflective tape, and besides that it's all in the technique you choose. Some drivers like to be friendly, some don't say nothing. Find what works for you, cause the list I mentioned above is the main checkpoints of inspection

    Most of the drivers on here talking about junk trucks and my company gives me money for passing don't know hardly nothing about truck mechanics/ maintenance. Just rolling around in boss's new loan. There are junk trucks, but just because it's not a 2018 freightliner with video game headlights doesn't mean it's "junk". Most newer trucks are plastic, full of emission problems, cheap parts etc

    Ok let me get this straight. The driver loses $100 if the truck does not pass that the driver does not even own the truck?

    Along with the lost time of driving.

    I hear the run legal and you don't have anything to worry about crowd, lots of truth to that.

    Lots of truth to run legal and when it's your turn it's your turn too. Even a clean inspection can mean the difference in getting empty that day and rolling on to your reload or missing the 3:30 cut off. With first come first serve on both ends and running it right sometimes you don't have the 20 minutes. I won't say I avoid em, but I #### sure don't go looking for them and call attention to myself either. How you roll has everything to do with random selection out on the road. Which is where I will take my chances over a scale any time

    Some of the "junk" that is driving around is a company driver that has the attitude of, its not my truck why do I care.
