Axle weight question

    ya for heavy haul with the Correct Axel and tire combo. for the rest of us it's 12 you would think after 33 years you would know that!

    20K for a single axle.

    of course there are additional requirements, as most of us know.

    Okay, I'll keep this going...Most OTR trucks have steer axles rated for 12k, some for 16k, and a few for 20. Rims also have ratings that may come into play. Just be sure your axle, rims, and tires are rated for the weight before you exceed 12k. "You guys should really know this by now"

    thats if your steers are rated to handle that weight. Most steers can only take 12500 gross weight.

    When you pull into a scale, you will not be bothered for anything up to 20,000 on your steer axle. Since some trucks are rated for 20K on the steers, the scale operator has no reason to suspect you are not rated for it. I have been driving 25 years, and **ONLY ONCE** in that entire time, did a D.O.T. inspector ever even bother to check my weight rating of my tires, rims, or suspension.

    After 25 years, all I can say, is I still don't know nuth'in, so there!!
