Looking at getting my own authority and just spoke to OOIDA. I was told that AZ base plates are around $4,000.00 per year?!! Can someone educate me on this? I checked the azdot.gov website and they don't list fees. From my understanding the age of the vehicle will impact this? Looking to register to 80,000 lbs and at buying a 2000 - 2003 tractor, (still in the planning phase.) I would probably have about 35 states listed on my cab card. I understand that IFTA requires a $3500.00 bond which 10% ($350.00) is required when issued. Also looking at registering a flatbed trailer in AZ. I once did some research and found that it would be around $500.00 (one-time fee) for a 1 to 6 year old trailer. Can someone clarify this for me? Thank you.
Az base plates?

I have AZ aportioned plates-AZ & CA only and they are $2,800. Sept. '13 to Sept. '14. Don't remember what my trailers were but they are permanent plates.

I'm attaching a link to the IRP website. It shows the fees state by state. I called that number you provided earlier today and I got a recording saying they could not give fee information on the telephone. According to the website below it looks as if OOIDA was pretty accurate. I'm just in shock seeing how much this is. AZ has got to be the most expensive state in the union to register a commercial vehicle in. The AZ Trucking Association will get a call from me tomorrow.

Your apportionment is based on miles driven. Since you'll have a vehicle without prior driven miles, your state will use an estimate for each state. And you add the estimates of your selected states. Then, based on percentage, you figure out what your total plate will cost. Your plate in Arizona may be $4,000 if 100% of your plate is AZ. but, since you're going into 34 other states, your apportionment will make AZ's chunk smaller, understand?
My plate in Ohio for 47 states ran me $1681 last year, and Ohio only equaled $100 of that cost.fuzzeymateo Thanks this. -

FL and PA didn't require a bond, and the first two years plates are usually cheaper than once your actual miles are used. It sounds like they are charging a crap load of AZ miles at a high rate for the AZ portion of the estimated plate.

LOL! That's funny, this is what I was told by OOIDA. I haven't bought anything yet but am looking at a 2000-2003 KW W9 or Pete 379 registered to 80,000. I can't get a straight answer from anyone I talk to. The DMV won't answer questions over the phone so I'm trying to get an answer without me going down there. $4000.00 seems way out of whack but I don't know that's why I'm asking. If you check out the link below it looks like it will cost around $3900.

I cant believe that New York state is better than Arizona, we only pay $50 and fill out a form to get IFTA.
