Wow I'm plated over 80k in some states and for my 38 states its less than $1400/year. And my trailers don't cost much at all. 1 time fee of $35. Ifta was $15 or so for my stickers each year. I'm glad I don't live in AZ. To heck with that no way would I get raked over the coals like that.
Az base plates?

After looking at that site, your IRP should be nowhere near $3900. Every state will be given a portion of your estimated miles, and every state has different rate for there portion. For example, IL where I'm plated out of, says $3,000+ per year. I pay $1600 for a 80,000 pound plate and $1900 for a max weight in every state plate.

I would also recommend dealing with the state directly. OOIDA is very helpful and I appreciate everything they do, but sometimes the cost is not worth having them do it for you. There are a few things I have had them do for me in the past, but now I do my best to handle it myself before calling OOIDA to do it for me. Sometimes you do get raked over the coals. I dont mean that in a horrible way either as I said I'm greatful for everything they do and all the lap they have given me. Its money well spend for sure but I would handle the plates and ifta yourself if I were you.fuzzeymateo Thanks this. -

You're welcome. I was unaware as required a bond for ifta until you had posted sounds ridiculous to me. Yes insurance for a new MC is atrocious. But like they have said if you keep your nose clean you will be alright. The new entrant program isnt too hard either. I still to this day dodge scales kinda have to now but that's another story. Leasing on as you said is another option. It may not be a bad idea either if you were a company driver all your life. No offense by any means but there is a lot you will have to handle having your own authority. You make the rules and run the company and you're the only one you can rely on nobody else. My dad had a hard time figuring that out in the office. Yet he sat there and said it was us that had to pay for repairs. Amazing how that worked. OOIDA hasn't steered me wrong but I have Ben a little offended by what they charge for some of their services. Then again it probably makes up for all the times I've called with questions and and what not. The $35/year pays for itself just in tires if you put tires on your truck each year so its money well spent as far as I'm concerned. Last time I knew my steers were $275 off retail so yea that right there has paid for my membership for the next few years.
Good luck in whatever you decide to do. And keep researching. I should've done about 6 months of researching before starting would've made life a lot easier. Were here if you've got questions take care.Rodriguezalfred15 and fuzzeymateo Thank this. -
You R Right on this one the state of AZ requires a bond for IFTA for new carriers of the amount of $3250.00. and your new registration for one truck will cost between $2200 to $2500/ year so to get started you are looking @ $4000-$5000 depending on what you have paid so far like the authority,SRS,EIN Etc. Contact this company to get a better explanation on what you will need to get done.

As for the bond, that just seems ridiculous. I didn't pay anything for IFTA in Ohio. Not even to apply. You just submit a form and they mail you your account info and stickers. Then start filing your quarterlies.fuzzeymateo Thanks this.
