Seems to me they pass up a lot of good people not being able to read between the lines. Or in other terms, see past their noses.
One can be darned if they do and darned if they don't. God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
keep looking, there are some who don't mind it. granted they will take advantage of you, but 1 year is only 1 year. goes fast if you don't focus on the bad parts. let your end goal be the focus.
It is almost as though the companies do NOT want to read between the lines or see past their noses. God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
I would look at Roehl, Schneider, Melton, Maverick, TMC, these are just the ones I have seen floated around here and I have talked to some of them. If your school is paid for with the grant definitely attend and I would bet someone will take a look at you once you get close to finishing. The key I have found is getting a recruiter to pass your info to someone else who can make a decision based on more than one thing. I was emailing a fellow from Millis for a bit. I worked in contract design so had too many jobs but they were by default short term jobs. Once I got to talk to someone it was a definite go for me. Unfortunately out since May would be a deal breaker for Millis. I still haven't made the leap, although it gets closer every year, yet farther away. LOL I had luck many years ago getting to drive a fellas O/O truck. He wanted to semi retire but keep the truck going.
Schneider is definitely on top of the list. I was just testing the water with Prime. I'll keep those other ones in mind too. Thanks. I think you're right on waiting till I've been in school for a bit. Recruiters come to the school quite often. After being on heavy equip. all my life, driving will come naturally to me. I even drove an end dump for a while (not legally) and I never had a problem. So maybe a good word from the instructors will get me in the door. They do call the school and ask who their best student is. Edit: The problem with it being back in May is that it took an extra 2 months to get funding. Should have come in July.
yeah, I was laid off in 2004 for 8 months. I wound up getting to drive an O/O dump truck then as a permit holding trainee. just before I road tested I got an opportunity to go back to design. because I wanted OTR not dump I took the design job and I've been back in it since. While I was off though I finally called Millis and being out more than 30 was the kiss of death for them. They don't want to think you're desperate and just taking trucking as a last resort.
