Oh can we please stop with this global warming nonsense? The United States is the most industrialized nation in the world yet we take more steps to try and protect the environment and so heavily regulated I'm surprised more industries haven't left this country already. We're always expected to make the biggest sacrifice but India and China don't have to do squat?
Just like the 2010 engines... we once again have more emission regulations crammed down our throat yet it sure seems like the 2003 and 2007 engines are working just fine.

Every time we get stricter emissions requirements, it seems the way we meet them is to burn more fuel to get cleaner exhaust. People will argue about percentages, but at some point, a larger quantity of "clean" exhaust pollutes more than a smaller quantity of "dirty" exhaust.
The added burden to drivers and companies was also apparently ignored; e.g. how much has been lost in repair costs and lost wages due to downtime from diesel particulate filters? It seems obvious from the massive failure rates that this technology was not ready for prime time. And that is just the latest example.
Just my 2 cents.LooneyTune Thanks this. -
They're also still allowing factories and power plants that can't afford expensive scrubbing equipment to continue operation without any. That is, of course, our fault.
They were trading in old cars for credits to supposedly make up for the pollution. One of the car magazines found a guy in line at one of these places with a 67 camaro. The magazine bought the car, gave it a tune up, and hooked it up to an emissions test machine. That old 67 put out less emissions than a brand new car.
All the emissions bs is just that.txviking Thanks this. -
You will never win this argument Mike. I have tried several versions of this logic in variuos forums over time, but the simple fact remains that some guys simply are not cut out to be away from home overnight.
They will argue the issue of unpaid work, cost of living on the road etc. but usually won't come out and admit that they simply don't want to be away, and won't think outside of the 9-5 mindset.
It's a #### good thing everybody is not that way, because surely we would still have a draft.
I challenge one of you guys to do the math on the hourly rate of a private in the armed forces. Especially one in Iraq or Afghanistan right now.
Bear in mind he's not laying around watching TV or eating at the buffet.
More than likely he's in 120 degree heat with bullets flying over his head and sand up the crack up his butt.
He's not thinking about dollars per hour I promise.
If Christopher Columbus and his crew, and Vasco deGama, Ponce deLeon etc. didn't want want to spend years at sea the world would be a lot different.
The cowboys on the cattle drives were not overpaid, I promise. But they were the equivalent of livestock haulers and their willingness to stay out on the trail sleeping on the ground put steak on people's plates.
Adventuresome people with a wanderlust just think differently I reckon.
As the old saying goes, it takes all kinds. -
I'm going to say what I tell my son. It does not matter what you think or believe. It only matters what the people in charged think and say. They have said that in order to get your 10 hour break or 34 hrs reset you must not do ANY work. fueling for any reason is work. no matter the amount or time spent. Plane ahead to avoid problems. Fill ALL tanks before you park or make sure you have enough fuel to last till you can move again. Plan for showers.

My point was that you don't have a specified rest period. Officials like you act like the HOS is doing us a favor, and honestly in some cases it is.. But it needs reform because we are all still out there trying to earn a living, and these companies use us for free enough.
When i drove the pay wasn't really my issue.. I had a good paying job, I did well for myself. My way of playing the 'not getting paid' to wait game was by simply doing everything in my power to NOT wait.. I wouldn't go to the shippers or receivers that made me sit around in the past, etc. The point that i was trying to make is that the government could fix the very issues they are worried about by regulating the industry again.. But why would they do that when we are now rolling ATM's? -
I never had a problem being away from home. The point of this discussion is how to get compliance, and it's not by shoving more rules down our throat and making it even harder to do our job than it already is.
I am not really sure what any of the above has to do with this issue. -
I thought the issue(or a side issue anyway) was people dividing their pay by the total amount of time they were away from home.
We need more like you eckz. You're a great American. -
I don't divide my pay by hours. i look at it more like variable salary. I don't care about the HOS limiting how much I make either. I do worry about making one tiny mistake and being thrown in prison for it.
No matter who you are, how long you've been doing this, who you work for or which "side" you're on, you've made a mistake somewhere. Welcome to being human, weather you believe it or not.txviking Thanks this.
