I would probably put it in the trailer in a locked (personally belongings bag). You could technically get in trouble for No BOL.,but, its locked in a personal liggage suitcase.Anyway,I have got away with this in the past."Hey,They have Boulevard Wheat Beer Here",Cant find it here,I know what your saying
-
It's only illegal if you get caught
Canadianhauler21 and austinmike Thank this. -
It's better if you're going straight to the house after purchase
-
Yes I know this however I come from a state that believes water flavored beer is good enough for the masses. Figured since I travel through a couple states with actual beer (and some that aren't here at home) I could store it until I get to the house.

That's how we rolled.
*And get your sleep to sober up before lift off.
Ah, the ole 3.2% States..... terrible situation, fella. I feel for ya.taodnt Thanks this. -
If it’s your personal belongings, you don’t have to have a BOL, even it’s in the trailer. Case in point, we regularly haul our own equipment, we never have a BOL for it. I’ve been stopped many times and asked for a BOL, when I tell them it’s our own equipment and don’t have a BOL, everything is fine.
Personally, I wouldn’t worry too much about it being out of sight in the sleeper. Your sleeper isn’t going to get searched in a inspection.Last edited: Aug 12, 2018
BUMBACLADWAR Thanks this. -
Seems your law makers just do not trust drivers in USA to be able to resist cracking a cold one if it’s in the truck. Very Victorian rules
not4hire Thanks this. -
More like we have a lot of people here who wouldn't resist so they have to make it a law so that something can be done when people don't use common sense.

Just an FYI, alcohol is a special case. In general one does not need a BOL to haul personal yes, but alcohol specifically says it's prohibited unless it's manifested and part of a shipment. Here is the actual text of the regs.
392.5 Alcohol prohibition.
(a) No driver shall—
(1) Use alcohol, as defined in §382.107 of this subchapter, or be under the influence of alcohol, within 4 hours before going on duty or operating, or having physical control of, a commercial motor vehicle; or
(2) Use alcohol, be under the influence of alcohol, or have any measured alcohol concentration or detected presence of alcohol, while on duty, or operating, or in physical control of a commercial motor vehicle; or
(3) Be on duty or operate a commercial motor vehicle while the driver possesses wine of not less than one-half of one per centum of alcohol by volume, beer as defined in 26 U.S.C. 5052(a), of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954, or distilled spirits as defined in section 5002(a)(8), of such Code. However, this does not apply to possession of wine, beer, or distilled spirits which are:
(i) Manifested and transported as part of a shipment; or
(ii) Possessed or used by bus passengers.Jazz1 Thanks this.
