Hi, I am curious about what to do with strapping and if wrapping them by hand is the easiest or if there are better ways. Do people use winders?

Yes they do, will be a little faster.
sjohnson1097 Thanks this. -
I use a winder most of the time. At my previous job it was not unusual to have 20 to 30 straps on a load. A winder made it alot faster.
Sometimes if I only have a few i will roll them by hand if I'm chatting with a rigger or site worker.sjohnson1097 and okiedokie Thank this. -

Winch Strap Winder
This one works really well. It rips the DOT tape on the rub rail and it can squeak pretty loud while winding if you don't plan on lubricating it. Those are the only 2 issues that I've come across.
Oh, and slow down your cranking towards the end so the hook doesn't whack your lower body parts.Flat Earth Trucker, tscottme, Albertaflatbed and 2 others Thank this. -
I use a portable winch Winder. Has made life so much nicer.
Albertaflatbed and sjohnson1097 Thank this. -
I use a winder like this if I have a rubrail available. It takes up the least amount of room.
If I don’t have a rubrail, it’s the old handjob method for me unfortunately.

I got a cheap winder of Amazon. Works great for when I'm putting straps away. I usually just leave them on the winches on the trailer as I run local and do multiple loads a day. For that I bent some steel wire into a handle shape to roll them up quickly.

You can buy a simple winder at the pilot flying j truck stops. If you have the space available then lay your straps out flat when you are unloading so that winding them up will be made easy, otherwise they will get tangled and require a lot of pauses and adjustments,
sjohnson1097 and Albertaflatbed Thank this.
