Live been with Big G for about 8 months now and I couldn't be happier. From day one, I've gotten exactly 0 BS from them. Everyone in the company has done exactly what they've said they would do. I average 2500-2800 miles per week and get home every weekend, unless I choose to run over the weekend to get some xtra miles. My DM knows me by name and knows how I like to run. If I have something that I need to get home earlier for (Dr appt, event at kids school, etc), dispatcher and planners bend over backwards to make sure that I'm there. In return, when dispatch calls and asks me for help (saving a load, doing a local run, etc.), I always say yes because thay remember it down the road. On thr flip side of the no BS coin, in exchange for giving you none, they will put up with none from you. I've seen them fire a lot of drivers for being consistently late, damaging equipment, and generally being unreliable. They expect you to do your job with no hand-holding. They run all E-logs and dispatch will not push you to run illegal. If you see that you can't legally make a load on time, just let them know ASAP, and all is good. Just don't wait until the last minute to tell someone. Communication is key. Equipment is top notch. All trucks are no more than 3 yrs old and very well maintained. Their mechanics are excellent and will fix anything that needs it in a timely manner. All in all, it's a great company to work for and they really do care about retaining good reliable drivers.

Thanks. I am looking for exactly that as far as home time. I am willing to give a little to help dispatch to make my end a little easier. I would like being able to work a weekend or two for a little extra. I've heard some on here complain that the mileage as bs. One guy saying 1500 to 2000 etc... it's good to hear otherwise. Which one do you work out of?

Theres are reason guys are getting low miles like that. They're likely not giving you the full story. It's been my experience that the miles are there if you're willing to run hard. I run out either my 11 or 14 almost everyday that I'm on the road. Helping out dispatch pays off big time. The company is small enough that they really do remember and appreciate those that are willing to be team players and have a good attitude. That being said, you will occasionally have a bad week. It is trucking after all. But like I said, I usually get 2500-2800. Every once in a while I even break 3000.7

I don't live within 50 miles of any of the terminals, so I get to bring the truck home with me (I park it at the Walmart down the street from my house). The 840 terminal in Gladeville TN is the main one (near Mt Juliet, about 20 miles east of Nashville on I-40). They have fuel pumps at that one, a wash bay, and a 24 hr shop. The other shops are only open 8-5. My DM is also at the 840 terminal.

They also just implemented a new sliding pay scale for short trips (under 300 miles). It adds between .06-.10 per mile for short runs. That's been about a $75 per week raise for me. They're really trying very hard to retain good drivers. I probobly could make more money somewhere else where they keep you out weeks at a time, but I've got two kids (6 and 5 y.o.) and being home every weekend is important to me and worth a lot. I've worked for companies where getting home time was like pulling teeth, but Big G has been great about getting me home. I usually get in Friday night or Saturday morning and leave out early Monday. It's nice.

Who are you working for now?

I know they drive immaculate equipment with APUs. I've always liked them and wished I lived in their hiring area

yep. Equipment is very nice. They just bought 50 brand new KW T680s and 100 new trailers. Got a new logo that looks very sharp on the new gear.

Yeah. I'm really liking the idea of the weekend thing. I have 10 month old twin boys. Thanks for the input. I work for Dixie Egg Company in Blackshear, Ga. We're home every other night but I'm extremely limited on pay . We're on salary plus 10c per mile over 1300 miles. And needles to say we run paper logs. :biggrin_25513:
