E. County Man is Seriously Injured After Big Rig Crashes Through Yard

An East County man was seriously injured Monday when an out-of-control big rig crashed into his back yard and struck him as he was cleaning his swimming pool, authorities reported.

The trucker lost control of the tractor-trailer when a van crashed into it at Dehesa Road and Granite Hills Drive in El Cajon about 10:45 a.m., city spokeswoman Monica Zech said.

The semi hit several other vehicles, then careened into a nearby yard, where it knocked a man into his pool and crashed partway into the water behind him, Zech said.

Emergency crews found the resident clinging to the edge of pool, and the front of the truck submerged. Medics took the man to a hospital for treatment of "major" injuries, Zech said.

Preliminary evidence suggested that the crash occurred when the driver of the van ran a stoplight, the spokeswoman said.
