Travelling in either direction, you switch to the rules in place for that jurisdiction as soon as you cross the border.

So, a few obvious issues would be; 1) if your on-duty driving since your last daily rest exceeds 11 hours you must pull over for a 10-hour rest as soon as you cross into the U.S., 2) if you were within the 70/7 on the Canadian side, but exceed 70/8 on the American side, then you'll have to rest/reset before continuing, 3) if you run Cycle 1 in Canada and have not had a 24 hour off-duty period in the last 14 days then you will have to rest/reset as soon as you cross into Canada.

Whenever I cross the border I make sure to stop before I cross a scale to get my log book in order.
