My truck has a bounce to it, at times. I notice it when I am against a headwind. worse when loaded, but when empty too. I had over time everything replaced on the front end. most recent all shocks front & rear. the only thing never replaced is spring hanger bushings. could they cause the bounce? I thought maybe it is the cab itself. does that make sense? all tires wearing even. nothing has been done to the rear of truck, as far as bushings, hanger bushings. e.t.c. I do have some flat spots on trailer tires. could that cause the bounce? I know it does to some extent, from experience, but what has me guessing is it does it a whole lot worse when I am against the wind. going the same patch of highway in the same lane, 1 day it bounces, next day it does not, pulling empty trailer. if I had another trailer, I would pull it to see if any difference. I can also lessen the bounce by going slower or faster. sometimes, I have to go 10 m.p.h. faster, some times have to go 10 m.p.h. slower to get the bounce to be less severe.

Just another one of those bug's I'm trying to pinpoint. thanks.

one company i worked for would replace the shackle busings (front and rear), and the trunnion bushings....our trucks were what else, freight-shakers...so they replaced those items at "regular" intervals.

there is also and air bag (or two) that supports the rear of the cab to the frame, are those as old as the truck..??

    Yes.

Have you spun the steer/front tires up with a tire balancer (on the truck) and checked them?

Have you set the truck up on jack stands and run it?

I had t.c.i put new steers on & 3 axle align with centramatics on steers. they checked it out, said everything was tight. this was 90,000 miles ago when they put tires on & just last month to recheck things. also went to mgriff tire co, they said all was tight.could not find any problem under the rack. I don't know if tires were balanced on truck. always had to drop truck off due to their, well get to it sometime today. I wanted to really concentrate on all the symptoms & at lower speed 45-50 I can put the palms of my hands up under steering wheel & feel a vibration too, along with bounce.

I am leery of some incompetent shops. last time I had truck cutting out on me & engine stop light come on, took 2 weeks downtime, 2 different shops, new sensors, e.t.c. $775.00 & never fixed the problem. I took it upon myself to guess & replaced all battery cables, main & jumpers. never had a prob with that since. when ever I have tires put on I tell them to check it all if anything needs attn call me. some are lazy & just want to sell you tires & have you out of the way so they can get the next customer in.

I do have one one shop, where I had my kingpin bushings put in years ago, does great work. never had a prob. they are backed up on appoint. so i guess I can go there. I just hate to schedule a appoint for a week out, not knowing what work I may have at that time. I could make one & then so happens that would be my $ 4,000.00 week. real sporadic work right now. one week 2 loads $800.00 next week 7 loads $3,500 so like others I am here trying to get free info :biggrin_25522: & give back thee same when I can.

i have a 98 W900L , same thing 3 different shops looked at it and said all is good when i finally took it to get the axles squared up the guy was real old school ,had the machine but checked it all by hand with old self built tools and got it closer than the machine , what he found was the front tires "goodyears" are close to new but when they were mounted the rim didn't center and the tire was out of round , he said they had been on to long to remount so just to make sure when th new ones are put on the tire and rim are lying flat on the ground with plenty of lube on the bead , before i could get them replaced one pushed the bead off the rim while it was parked right at the spot he show me it was out at

I had the same problem with vibration and bouncing, finally found out it was an out of round steer tire. Tech told me after mounting new tire, they always take the steers and set the wheel over a five gallon bucket so their is no interference with the floor, center the tire and inflate. Hope this helps.

it does help & make sense. I have bf 244 on the steers. but the set I have now was not put on by the shop I trust. they were out of the bf's & I would of had to wait a day or 2 to even get an appoint, so I went a block away to T.C.I. & they put bf's on. I should of waited to get in the same shop I had the bf's put on once before.. thank you.

also check (i guess you have 10 stud wheels) that the area between the holes in the wheel / rim and the studs are even. e.g there is a tool that is a machined tube that when a tyre is fitted they put this tool over one of the studs as it centres the wheel onto the hub. hope that makes sense. if this is not done then the wheel will rotate out of round as if you have a high spot in the tyre. Alcoa wheels make them
