Yes what they said. If you have a program will be super quick and easy. And it is chump change. Nothing to worry about like other semi fixed expenses. My last two were both under $20.

@haider99 both these guy are right. It is one of those things you will have to fine tune over time. You will pay the same thing in the end, either at the pump or by mail, so don't waste time trying to figure this one out right away. There are far too many other things that need your energy right off.

I feel this can be a yes and no situation. Here's why. A lot of times the Illinois price can be the same or even cheaper at the pump, for example: this week I bought Illinois fuel for $2.29/gallon. I ran through Indiana and Kentucky. Fuel was $2.39-$2.54 in those states. So not only did I save at the pump, but I also saved at the end bc the Illinois fuel will carry both IN & KY bc of the higher tax rate.

I do agree that you have bigger things to worry about starting out, but not having an idea on fuel tax rates and how to buy it can be costly over time. You don't want to get hit with a $500 IFTA bill bc you bought all your fuel in states like Indiana or Kentucky. I know a guy that did that. He always fueled in Indiana even tho he mostly ran from Michigan to Wisconsin and back

Get the fuel book app. I use it for pricing but I now see the updated version allows you to search fuel costs with IFTA being considered as well.

This trip I tried something new. While I don't pay really close attention and rather just have established stops I looked at my route and figured my best options.
Sapp in pa on 80 exit 120 is 2.68 or 1.94 after ifta is out. .05 lower than my usual place which is Jims at Buffalo. Or .15 lower than esso key at Niagara. Our new fuel tax has pushed the price of fuel higher than in usa. Carbon tax is not added to ifta so it does make a difference not to pay it. Sorry Justin, I am doing my best to dodge your carbon tax.

Point being if you know your trip ahead and if you know the fuel price you will pay you can actually save over time.

Yes. There are 3 stations at irving on hwy 20 and 2 down on I86 by Salamanca. The ones on 86 are usually a dime higher but cheaper than other new York stations.
