There were some nice cabovers. I never cared for them. Everyone I drove, is a testament to my driving skill that I didn't run over anybody or anything. You may as well drive those things with horse blinders on. I'll take a hood, even a short hood , which we used to call conventional cabovers, any day. The cabover I liked the best, believe it or not, was an IH 4070B Transtar. Spring ride shook me to pieces, but could really get around nice with it. Shiny 290, ( 300) 13, it was a good truck. The absolute WORST cabover I drove was a Frightliner FLA setback axle, air ride cab, oh, how I hated that truck.
Bi-Mart Freightliner FLA(SBFA), Truck# 330Rideandrepair, FlaSwampRat and x1Heavy Thank this. -
The worst?
White Commander COE. STeel suspension, steel wheels. Bolted cab to frame.
It shook like a mofo. To this day I possess shake related injuries in certain spots from that #### thing. It actually put me into the hospital after two hours on bad concrete plates. Shake shake shake. Then the pains started.
They gave me dilaudid IV for overnight and scanned me with a Physical therapist next morning phsyically touching the owies and tendons to see how bad they got. 7 of them were infected and needed more medicines.
Boss says for me to take the #### thing out on a another load, Im late from sitting around wasting time in the hospital. whats wrong with me anyway?
I gave him a profane word, followed by a two word F Y and walked out.
HE threw a chair through the drywall next to me. Temper temper. I tell you what, if he just sold that box of pain and just got a nicer truck everyone would be happy to work there.Rideandrepair and 201 Thank this. -
Good copy on the "Road Commode",,, could have been worse, how about those Japanese Freightliners or a Crackerbox Jimmy?Rideandrepair, FlaSwampRat and x1Heavy Thank this.

The tow truck driver just stopped by, he had just finished moving the trucks for me. I had not paid any attention to the W9, because someone else had the high bid by far, but then didn't pay for it, so I putbin a bid after the auction was closed. The tow truck driver just told me it had new rubber on it, so I got my money back just in rubber on that one. lol
Rideandrepair, Feedman, Tx Countryboy and 2 others Thank this. -
The first diesel truck I bought was a transtar, walking beam susp, you could not force me to drive that truck today. lol It served me well back then though.
When I was running back and forth steadily to Alaska, I was limitted to 244 wheelbase. I kept threatening to get a later model international flat floor, or an argosy and stretch it to 244, so I could have some frame and be able to haul a bike behind the cab, but my wife hates cabovers. lolRideandrepair, bzinger, Feedman and 4 others Thank this. -
The Jimmy aint so bad. The Hinos on the other hand..
If you really want some fun, get into a Merchedes box cabover two axle. With that 5 speed german manual. The shift pattern has been determined by a giggling child crayoning on the floor when the factory built the thing.
Back the the GMC... they were not BAD trucks. Just have to ... mudder them them along a while. Humor it a little bit. Love on it a dab of grease, oil and so on.
Trucks are funny. Just objects. Working objects made to haul loads.
However. if I hate a truck, it will find ways to hurt me. Funny how that works.Rideandrepair, 201 and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
Um,,you sure about that? Sonny Pruitt himself would go mad in 15 minutes.
Grant Industrial Trans, Rideandrepair, x1Heavy and 2 others Thank this. -
Unless a crackerbox with a set back front axle. My uncle had one. He told me it was so unbalanced, that bobtailing , stopping, hitting certain bumps the rear of the truck would actually lift off the ground.Rideandrepair, starmac, FlaSwampRat and 2 others Thank this.

Those old things were a bad joke. My brother had a mack cruseliner. With camelback suspension. That thing bucked over every little bump..and bucked hard. It even worked at self destruction of its self. It was the same year as my co 9670. The mack had the dash, and other areas of cab all busted up. He had home made brackets all over the interior.Rideandrepair, bzinger, FlaSwampRat and 1 other person Thank this.
