I was going through Cali the other day to Commerce on 40. I do 59 mph. At 59 my engine is lugging or to be exact slightly above where I would downshift up a grade. If I drove 55, I would have to be in ninth on a 10 speed. Which one would give better fuel economy? If anyone's interested, feel free to comment.
Cali 55 mph

If you're on the flatland, 10 is fine. Depending on your rpm's. But probably stick with 9.
I had a 13. I drove in 11mostly, 12 on the flat sometimes when i'm out in the boonies with light traffic. -
Speed limit is 55...drive in whatever gear works best at 55.
snowlauncher, ExOTR and Steel Tiger Thank this. -
I drive 65 up to 70 sometimes in CA, no problems.

Nothing to brag about. After all you are breaking the law....PERIOD. No ifs ands or buts. Just because you may get away with it doesn't make it OK.
Unfortunately drivers don't seem to think it's a big deal to exceed the posted speed, regardless of where it's at. The law is the law. It doesn't say "please drive close to that speed. Just like stealing is stealing. Doesn't matter if it's a pack of gum or a flat screen t.v.. It's illegal.
There is absolutely no argument anyone can give that justifies breaking a state statute that had been passed into law by the governing body. You may not like it, but that doesn't give you the right to break it and not expect consequences when you get caught. End of story.polytrucker, Ssand Man, snowlauncher and 7 others Thank this. -
He can enjoy that $450 fine when he gets one.
I've done 65 in los angeles. When i was rushed. Never been bothered. But i didn't make a habit of it. Generally kept it under 60.
@J.S. You can do 60 without any hassles. -
Or doing 65-68 through a 55 construction zone that constantly has the barriers moved as construction rolls along... for clues... note where I live and the two year project..

We have had drivers ticketed for 60 in a 55 in California.TallJoe Thanks this.

I'm willing to bet they were doing something else at the same time. Like playing on the phone or hanging out in the left lane.

Not having been there I can't say they weren't, but they didn't have the tickets to do with those violations and CHP loves writing those tickets.MachoCyclone Thanks this.
