I guess the beating of the dead horse will never end.
To the OP, no one wants freedom more than me, this job would be 10x more enjoyable. But please understand that we will never achieve any progress until we all come together in blaming the culprit. " Hours of Service" more specifically the 14 hours on duty and the uninterrupted 30 minutes brake are the issues.
I would have to agree with @Ridgeline who said to go back to the older rules that were better.
I wish they'd have 13 hours drive time like the Canadians. 80 hours in 7 days and we'd be good to go. No 14/16 hours on duty, no mandated 30 minutes brake. I stop through the day, I don't need to be forced to stop 30 minutes within 8 hours.. I'll do it if I want or maybe work a little past 8 hours before I take that 30 or whatever.
Bottom line, HOS are the problem, not in which manner you fill out your log book. Let's be real, if people were 100% in legal compliance while on paper, hos would've been reverted back the moment they "updated" to what we have now..Oldironfan Thanks this. -
HOS, vs Eld, Pen to paper. There are many grey areas, and many discretionary rules. For instance.
1. AG exemption. I have spoke with troopers that feel if bull racks, and AG goods are exempt for a 150 mile radius, everyone should to make any sense.
2. Cheating it's done on paper and Elog, and AOBR.
3. Small carrier exemption if made possible. Would be ok I believe if they hired more than 3 years experience and not rookie drivers. And drivers with good CSA scores. The whole CSA score system singles out small carriers putting them under a microscope. Considering 1 bad inspection can cripple the company, if we use a 4 truck fleet size. This really bugs me.
4. The biggest carriers are self insured or have a massive driver pool insurance rate which is deeply discounted. But yet only seem to be able to hire idiots. Being the reason for development of the Elog programming.
5. I do agree with the Canadian HOS. But than they must use Amerian HOS while here. And Elog, even though in Canada they did not need go. This is all very confusing to me.
6. Yard move, and personal conveyance while loaded to get to safe parking. Let's see how far some idiot gets with these, or what happens if an accident occurs while using these rules. This will be very ingesting.CorsairFanboy Thanks this. -
