NoCoCraig,
Let me start by saying thank you and your wife for your very informative threads and blog.
I graduated cdl school a few weeks ago and have decided I want to team with USX. I have a few questions for all the USX drivers out there.
How do they go about placing teams? Do they have some kind of survey to match drivers on home location, likes/dislikes, and personality, or do they just throw two random guys together? I have read a few posts about drivers being teamed that don't live near each other and one driver is pretty much stuck on his days off, doesn't sound like fun.
Do you know many other teams that were paired by USX? Are they/you happy? Can you change teammates if it's not working out?
Thanks,
Thump

They just give you numbers of guys in your area. Then you call and talk to them and decide if you want to team. You can get a different one if they don't work out as long as there is someone available in your area.
NoCoCraig Thanks this. -
Yeah, I cannot help much here as a married team. I would suggest a couple of great questions for a prospective teammate however.
Do you smoke?
How hard do you want to run?
How often do you want/need to be home?
Do you prefer driving days or nights?
How often do you want a shower on the road? ( 60 square feet gets pretty small if someone stinks) -
Some more important questions:
How long have you been driving? Get details like who for, etc.
What did you do before you started driving.
It would also be nice if you could give them an IQ test...
If you get a gut feeling they wouldn't work out just walk away. -
Thanks!
I was starting to wonder if anyone reads these threads.
I sent my application in on friday and hope to hear back soon. -
No longer at USX, but I might can help. I came with a team-mate and we were friends before coming to USX. So as far as the process I can't help their either.
Mainly you need to have some common interest as the person you team with. Then understand that once you get rolling, when you drive they need to be in the bunk, and when they drive you need to be in the bunk. Not saying y'all can't stay up sometimes, but if you stay around each other too much, you will quickly tire of each other. You live 24/7 with this person, and you have to agree on work ethics and eating and all that good stuff, or you will dread every day you are out on the road. If they suck at something and you have to help them every day, then it will piss you off more and more when you have to go over it again for them.
Good luck with it, and if you want it to be good it can...but also try and find someone who wants to work as hard as you do. -

Looks like I finally found a new co-driver. We will be hooking up after my home time in 2 weeks.
