Camera question

Well, because my employer (whom had just given me a million mile safety award) wanted me to quit as they were claiming I fell asleep and the inward facing camera showed that I was fully awake.

They were claiming that I fell aleep and hit somethjng, even though there was no damage to any of the wheels,

There inward facing camera was best friend. The 3 minutes before the failure showed me pulling upto and stopping at Ave E & Sierra Hwy, waiting for traffic to clear, making a tight right turn, coming up to speed ( 13 speed tranny) and the failure happening north bound Sierra Hwy at Ave D, The road swerves to the right and I continue , and the panic that ensues as you realize you have no steering as you are now on the wrong side of the highway, also what happens to a set of double tankers when you apply the brakes.

I am quite happy the camera was there, I pulled the chip and gave it to chp, they pulled the chip and watched it, and copyed it, That video file keep me from recieving a ticket, kept the company from pursuing me in anyway, backed completely.

I always (when allowed some areas I go in and out of do not allow recording devices) have drivecam's of my own recording the interior of the truck (and in my car).

 

I would think most drivers are uncomfortable with the driver facing cameras. I am an O/O and I have 3 forward facing cameras. I had 2 facing rear on my mirrors as well but they stopped working. As high as insurance is, especially since the 2 million mandate, I personally think it is foolish not to have a forward facing camera.

 

Outward cameras are all that’s needed to truly protect the driver. Inward cameras are just invasive and an invasion of your privacy. Although I will say the company I have worked for in the past and the company now have both driver facing cameras. I completely ignore it and sometimes when I’m in a goofy mood I’ll make faces and say really weird things so if they’re listening to me they’ll think I’m half nuts. Lol
I really don’t give a (insert adjective) anymore. If some psychopath out there wants to eat popcorn and get a thrill out of watching me scratch my ### some random night, so be it.

And yes, OP, Don’t believe the crap they tell you that they only review the incidents that are sent to them. Every safety manager at every company has a code and he can watch that camera or go back and review it anytime he wants. It’s all saved and it’s all in the cloud and they can see it all. They can watch you for 24 hours straight or just choose to view the incidents that are sent to them. Anything and everything else you hear is BS. They can and they do watch you especially when you’re a new driver. They will check you out on that camera.

The newer systems have features on it they can monitor your eye movement. Got a hands-free cell phone that you look down at occasionally, the systems will pick that up and report it to the safety department.

 

If you try blocking the camera at most you’ll get away with it for about 24 hours and then you’ll get called in. Lol ask yourself how they know that? I didn’t even block mind with tape or a hat or anything like that I just positioned my visor in a way that it couldn’t see my face. After about four days of doing that I was called in and said that I needed to adjust my visor. I just asked him simply “how do you know that?”. They wouldn’t answer me. Lol yeah you’ve been doing some spying. That’s how. Lol

 

Yup, But backfired. I knew I was good thats why I suggested that CHP review the video right there on scene. I still run my own careras.

 

No, but it may activate a few other things you may not want to experience.

 

I put up with the driver facing cams for about a year or so.
In the end Swift put an end to them, probably because they really didn't help them that much.

That said...
They can still sometimes see what you are doing even with a forward facing camera.
Reflections from the windshield can show things, such as a driver using a tablet while driving to watch movies and other stuff.
They posted a video about it when that driver was in a fatal accident, with a history of doing things.

Best advice?
Just stick to driving when you are supposed to be driving!
