Got a ding in the windshield that decided to grow into a three foot long crack overnight. Can a windshield fall apart if a crack goes across from one edge to another?

Windshields in trucks are double pane. If you have it go into both panes then yea. If you have a 3 foot long ticket waiting for a sharp eyed sparky to write you up a DOT ticket and possibly a OOS inspection based on that bad glass... (What else you are not fixing on that truck eh?)

Hop into a shop or have one drive to you and drop a new windshield in. In the older iron trucks that was about a hour at most with a knife and some silicon. Pop out the busted or cracked pane and drop the new one in.

Not likely, but you had better note it on your DVIR when doing a pre-trip and get it fixed soon. Don't give DOT any excuses.

I had just one tractor fail on me more or less one day. We had Mr Crack show up. about two feet. Boss says aww run it.

That particular glass got us a ticket at the scales. And then additional problems. His "Aww run it" cost a bunch of money. Much more than what just fixing it will have cost.

Best if it's not in your line of sight ie, the passenger's side. Alot of insurance will pay for a free windshield replacement, at least mine has before, maybe not all. Call yours to find out, but get it changed

My commercial ins doesn't cover glass. That's just on my pickups not a tractor. Might b different for the big trucks.

They'll pretty much come out to any home or business to replace your windshield or have you stop by one of their service centers. Double check with your insurance and see if it's free

No it won't fall apart from a crack. I've had windshields get hit hard enough to blow the inner glass layer out and it stayed together. Depending on the crack's location it may cost you a ticket if you get stopped.
