Anything over 26k lbs requires a cdl and air brakes.weigh your truck empty and full of fuel, deduct that from 26k and thats what u can haul.

    Hey, lets do some math!

    2014 3500 Cummins - ~$55,000
    40' trailer - ~20,000

Almost $100,000 invested and you don't know your weight ratings...

Well, ugh lets see here, the door jam on the pickup should list your max gross weight, your trailer should be tandem axles, so probably 14,000# pay load there.

But you won't know optimal gross average... So you'll need to use a scale... Which I feel is above your pay grade.

Look at the manufacturer's tag. I'd be willing to bet that the GVWR on the truck and trailer add up to over 26001lb. Meaning you will probably need a commercial license.

No mater what the truck and trailer are rated for you can't exceed your tire rating. Go look on the side wall and add it up.

Having done car hauling with a 1 ton... all I can say is I hope the truck is equipped with air bags and an air pump system for the air ride else that poor truck is going to be beat to death inside of 1 yr.

Hate to sound like a jerk.. but these guys are right. You really should have done some homework.

Combination vehicle over 10,000 needs a CDL interstate, last time I checked. Even if he pulls it with a bicycle....

I've pulled crazy loads with a Dodge Cummins diesel, legally. Legal doesn't mean safe, sane, or profitable. Check towing rating on your truck, check your tire ratings, trailer rating, and whatever is the lowest, that's your limit.

It's VERY easy to get to stupidville in a pickup with a gooseneck, legally.
