Trucking is unlike any other job.To most companies it's about making big money and avoiding lawsuits. To you as the driver its about making money, while being safe and legal and protecting your prized posession (your CDL and of course your driving record. If you get a good trainer you may see this a little firsthand ie. he may belly yell at an ate up shipper or driver. May even turn down a load from the dispatcher if there's not enough time to p/u and deliver it without speeding or fudging a log.Ive turned down loads just part of the job.Just calmly inform them you cant do it legally. Some dispatchers know what theyre doing, some just know the drivetime on their mapquest.Nothing about an actual truck or real world driving time.Yes,its good to get along well with your dispatch(so you dont get the bad loads) When I started out ,I was worried about making everyone happy and proud of me.Then I realized these are the same nice guys getting the late load delivery recorded in their driver file, overweight tickets, speeding tickets etc. Most companies will test the limit they can push you, then they know . Its a game. That same driver you seen argueing with the dispatcher might be at the company barbecue drinking beer with him at the T-bones game next week. Its mainly just business.I'm a nice guy also but Im ready to step on some toes when I have to.Not trying to sound like a lecture just saying Your the captain of the ship. Be ready to say "can you move your car, youre blocking the dock,or hey this hazmat paper work isnt right or excuse me Im about to run out of hours here can we expedite this loading process, please?

My math is fine, I said as long as you don't go over 80k. 33,500 on the driver, 12,500 steer, is that ok? I'm never near being over weight on my steer so no worries.
