    Hey there..

What cbs can fit in the stock location in the cascadia? Im not allowed to cut or drill into my trck..needless to say my general lee wont fit, so I need a new cb. I was thinking connex 33 or just a cobra 29.. but I like a big radio. So any info will help!

My suggestion would be to either use the industrial-type Velcro (it's actually a field of little plastic mushrooms on both halves of the stuff) and really good glue, then stick it to the bottom of the radio pocket. It takes a lot of force to fasten it together, and sometimes something like a blunt putty knife to split it apart again.

Or put in whatever radio will fit in the pocket, and run it through a decent (i.e., technically excellent) external amplifier that you can stash wherever you want. By "big radio", I'm not sure what you mean. If you want to garbage up your signal with unintelligible noise like robot voices and endless echo, just put on one of those goofy microphones (but recall that echo just fills in the spaces between your natural voice's syllables, making it harder for others to understand.) If "big radio" to you means more transmit power, with no corresponding increase in your receiver's performance so that you'll talk farther than you can hear, go the external RF amp route.

Cobra 29, Uniden 78, or a Galaxy 979 I think is a compact SSB. Smaller radios won't fit quite as well as these. There is an integrated bracket in the newer ones to fasten the radio in with the thumb screws, as well. t's attached to the faceplate, need the right size Torx to remove and replace.

Just kiddin. I just like to sound good and be able to hear a ways. I guess big radio in my opion is the one that gets a loid and proud response to a cb check.

i cant believe that no one makes a modified cover for that cascadia cubby hole for the radios. they would make a killing if they made one that would take an export radio like the connex/g lee/ galaxy size.

There is an option of a factory installed on the dash mount, the trucks my company ordered have them, the trucks we lease now have the cubby in the headliner, and there isn't a lot of room to spare in the cubby. The pad on the dash also has 12 volt power with binding posts.

The Cascadia factory faceplate fits a larger but still normal sized CB, but a 148 Cobra won't fit well even without the cover, the export radios are even a bit bigger than that, I think, although I did help a driver hook up a mic in the headliner of an old FLD, the side mounted microphone jacks made it harder to place a CB in a confined area. The larger cases won't quite fit.

I mounted my Galaxy 44hp in the center under storage compartment. If you look it has what looks to be speaker holes I went to homedepot and found long enough and skinny enough bolts to fit and mounted it up there so now it is center of truck pointing toward the drivers side works great and you are not limited to CB size. For your power pull stock CB power wire through one of the holes . I do not use stock coax I run my own through the door on passenger side to a perch mounted antenna.

I ran coax through the firewall in the midst of the hoses and cables, in front of the instrument cluster there is a hole you can push a piece of coax without a PL-259 through, and routed it over to the A-pillar(the cover snaps off and back on) up to the headliner and over to the cubby, it took a few hours to figure everything out, but once I knew the coax could go that way, it was worth it.

I'm using a Q-5 mount with a heavy bracket attached, and a 7 foot Firestick tipped a little forward, it comes up about as high as 4 footers did on top of the mirrors on a Columbia.

Looks good, nothing in the weatherstripping, and you can't see I added anything except the mount and antenna and a little coax threaded out from under the hood to the mount.

I should have tipped the antenna a little more, the wind pushes it back, but the airflow keeps it from hitting the cab. Works good, gets out and hears.

Radio is a stock Cobra 29 Chrome. Mic I'm using now is an Astatic.
