My 2016 Cascadia is only a year old now. The last few weeks it's been running hotter than usual and the fan was kicking in lots. It never overheated but it got close a few times.
The DD16 has a two stage thermostat, so I thought maybe it wasn't fully opening, so I bought a new one for almost $200. But first a co-worker suggested that the rad maybe plugged seeing as we load in a lot of dusty conditions.
So this morning I moved the a/c rad and charge air cooler out, and presto here's what I found.

That'll do it every time. If it was winter at least you wouldn't need a winter front :p

I always take a garden hose and spray from the backside of the radiator towards the front. Don't know if it helps, but makes me feel better.

garden hose with fireman's nozzle and spraying from backside. it's good to be presoaked by lemon/orange acid containing cleaners for bugs and flys

Garden hose or washing the backside of the rad only helps partly. What you REALLY need is something that cleans the grime actually off the fins.

There's this stuff you can find at the hardware store that I have GREAT success with. It's made for HVAC condensers, but a radiator for the engine is the same thing!

Check it out and let me know what you think!

Yes I used a foaming rad bug cleaner about three times. Seemed to do the job.

Nice! Do you have an "after" picture showing what the cleaning did?

Just an FYI... next time use plain dry compressed air. Water will sometimes harden the dust into a concrete consistency, making it even more difficult to remove.

No, but it looked like clean aluminium. Besides the garden hose I also used a booster that uses both the garden hose and compressed air at 120 psi to do the final cleaning.
    Similar to this one.
