I don't mind the twins. I think they can pull just fine. I am just curious if I can modify my truck without paying $1000+ to have someone custom tune it if I can do it myself.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

I cannot personally verify this as that wasn't a huge concern. My buddy works for a truck shop and was checking it over and that's what he said. I will check tomorrow to double check and get back to you on this. Is there any benefit one way or another to a 120 pin ecm vs a 70 or vice versa?

Not really. The bxs ecm is a 70 pin but not like the e-model 70 pin ecm's. Different circuit board. Completely different from the 120 pin ecm.

I gotcha. So if I changed stuff in ET to match the same specs as my buddy's, would I see problems since the are different serial numbers?

IDK, seems to me there are certain places and ways to save a buck or two and certain situations where it really isn't worth the gamble and could end up making things much worse and costing significantly more money. In my opinion (which completely doesn't matter), this is a situation where the expense of getting a professional tuner to do this job is about the only real right way to do it. Just plugging in different files from the assortment you have could easily create a situation where it looks like it works better, but has unintended consequences that could be really pricey.

I know what I can do to my applications, I have countless files I can use, but I have no idea about the accerts. I have read numbers of times on here to leave the twins on and just fine a good tuner to get it right. Will save you a lot of costly headaches. And don’t forget if you eliminate the vva’s, it’s gonna cost you headgaskets unless you drop the compression ratio to the pistons.

Do some more research before you change anything. You can probably flash a file pre low nox. Or just play with it a little since you have countless files. And you can tweak the fls/fts number also. Check out this website, mhhauto.c o m , you can browse thru it.

I would prefer someone professional (As in trained exacting) to do this work. No slam against anyone shade tree here, but when you beef up via software a engine's output, you increase the wear, load and tear on everything inside the engine, transmission, rear ends etc. I once tore out a machined spline gear almost two feet long when it refused to accept a straight drop pull decades ago. The mechanic wants to kill me to this day because it cost them almost as much as the truck was worth to dig it out and replace it. It's not a gear you replace. But when you put enough beef on the transmission and it goes to take a big bite out of 5 or 6 splines... it's too much.

I have talked with a fire fighter whose pumper had a Cat that was really big sounding to me, I explained to him my background to that time as a trucker and asked about whats doing in that big kitty he had running. He explained to me that the truck was partiuclarly special tuned to around 2100 Torque, horse is meaningless (Around 700 or so, give or take 100) and it would drive the water pump system to the required output if necessary. As well as run the three axle pumper down the road in a lively manner. (Assume 65000K, it will get up and go)

However the shop that custom built the pumper to the city's special order had a trained CAT person with the sufficient computer access and files to tune the engine the way it was.

With that kind of torque I can only imagine running upgrade on any hill at the speed limit loaded. Maybe even use a little jake to keep it at the speed limit don't you think? //lunch counter.

There is only so much you can do with stock files. Sure you can play with trims and fls/Fts maybe but you wont be able to change timing calibration. Only select few can do that.
Pay the money and get it done right.

Also there is no such thing as pre low nox cals for a accert. Pre low nox went out the window in anything after the 1999 year perty much. People love throwing that terminology around thou. No offence diesel Dave. The only true low nox cals were anything before 1999 and was never flashed to something newer .
