Hello
I just put a new reman water pump on in May of this year. The last 2 days it has been -27*f up in this arctic hole and have not had my truck plugged in because I haven't been working. So I was looking under the truck yesterday and noticed some drops of coolant on the ground traced them up to the weep hole on the pump. What my question is. Is it normal for a pump to leak out the weep hole when its not plugged in and the temp is so cold? Keep in mind this pump has roughly 20,000 miles on it.

Cold water leaks are common at clamp joints, and I have seen water pumps weep when cold but I always took that as the beginning of the end.
buddyd157 Thanks this. -
Run your hand up above the weep hole and feel for wet antifreeze . More than likely its a loose clamp on one of the upper hoses. When that happens it leaks down and drops off the weep hole and makes it look like a bad pump. Good Luck.

Well I hope the pump is not on it way out. As I said it only has 20000 miles on it or only 7 months old.

Take this for what it's worth. I put a reman pump on my 2ws, and for the first 100,000 miles it would do the same thing. Only when cold and only once in a while. Just a small puddle on shop floor come Monday morning. Came from weep hole. I just left it and it appears to fixed itself as it hasn't done it since in 6 months. My understanding is there is two ceramic seals that rub against each other and it just took that long to wear into each other to make a perfect seal. If its just a very small leak, I would keep an eye on it. Chances are it will seal up with some miles on it. Wierd stuff happens when it gets that cold, also if your running the red ELC coolant, it seems to leak more then the green for some reason.

Hey Thanks for that input. I was wondering that myself. I think if I had to sit out in the 27 below zero weather parts of me would start leaking just a little also. I had talked to a friend of mine that kind of had the same issue and went ahead and changed the pump just to have next do the same thing. That would really piss a guy off. I won't be back in the old girl tell Monday so I guess we will see what happens. I did go plug it in last evening and checked the leak this morning and it didn't seem to be as bad. Maybe that is all the warmer it had to be. I will just have to keep an eye on it. I would hate to have to change the darn thing again, but I can't stand any kind of leak on my rig.

I'm same, can't stand any leaks myself. Was almost going to replace it too , but I'm glad I left it alone as it seems fine now.

Should be warrantied for a year isn't it?

Well bear in mind metal does shrink in the cold. Lot of difference in AR cold and your cold. I know the amount of shrinkage is minute but an inch can be a mile some times. Very possible it will warm up and swell a little as well the teflon seals will soften and expand. I would see what happens for sure. And agreed I run a 1985 359 everyday, I can't stand even a seep drives me crazy.
