I can’t find anything about how long I can drive legally with my learners permit on a daily with a team driver with a CDL sitting next to me can somebody please help please and thank you.
The same hours of service regulations apply to CDL permit holders as do regular CDL license holders, so generally 11 hours drive time followed by a 10 consecutive hour break. 30 minute break within 8 hours of coming on-duty, 60 or 70 hours in any 6 or 7 day period (based on carrier's operation). Now, as I read your question, you ask about a team driver sitting next to you. That driver has to be logged on-duty not driving while sitting in the right seat and being responsible for your driving. They can be on-duty as long as they wish, however they can not drive if they have more than 14 hours of on-duty time without first taking a 10 hour break. Bottom line, and I think this is the question you are trying to ask, no, you can not legally run as a team truck (meaning round the clock with little stops/breaks) with one CDL licensed driver and one CDL permit driver.
Ok thx I just renewed my permit for another six months what’s the driving time allowance now I read/heard something about after the first six months I can’t drive night time ? And thank you for the response cleared a lot but we were doing 7/7 hours each driving then sleeper 10 hours until reset came around
That is perfectly legal, and there is no restriction on night driving for CLP holders. In fact, if you attend a PTDI certified school their curriculum requires at least 1 hour of night driving. Many CDL schools offer night and weekend classes for students.
You run at night same as the day. WHAT did change is some companies made policy no one runs a #### thing at night. FFE had started some sort of experimentation for trainers to run daytime only with students. Even though they have full grown CDL's We did not take on permit people in those days that I know of. My wife she got her permit long enough to graduate school with a CDL. Then she gets to ride with me and learn how to be a reefer team in the dead of winter in the rockies. She was essentially doing everything day and night by the end of the second week. She has managed to do everything I asked her to do, and sometimes was brave enough to go out and do some things I specifically told her we not going to do just yet. I had other students in my time now and then, just long enough to see if they can drive a semi without keeping me up at night. Or complain about that lumping. But never a permit student. You graduated from trucking school by way of a full CDL at the DMV.
