Awesome advice, thank you! I heard that freight is typically slower during winter months and hence many LTL companies are not hiring. Called Conway and they have a hiring freeze right now.

I would love to work for them, but I'll tell you, getting a dock job is #@&@ difficult if you have been a teacher and do not have recent warehouse and forklift experience
-
I will def inquire, thanks so much! IVY is 4000, SDIA and SAGE around 4800T_Bone Thanks this.

Good point, I love the freedom that comes with paying for your own CDL. I think I might just do that ...close my eyes and spend my savings ...lol
-
Thanks so much, you def raised an excellent point - something I would not have considered.
-
Yeah, driving school is pretty expensive! I am glad to hear you had a positive experience at SAGE. If I can't get a job with an LTL company, I might just bite the bullet and pay for the CDL myself.

I like SAGE too...guess I am also looking into SDIA and IVY TECH...I def hear you regarding paying for it yourself...I really appreciate the advice!

Oddly, not all Sage schools are PTDI-Certified Courses. The one in Montana is, but the one that I am looking at in Denver, is not. Nor are the two in Indiana. It's probably not a big deal, but it made me wonder about the Denver school. It is probably still better than most here.

Assuming you're in Indy, if you're still looking check out my thread. I went to C1 and Roadmaster out of pocket. Total cost if you pay for yourself at Roadmaster is over $7000. They give you a $2000 discount if you go drive for Werner.

If you're in Indy, go to SDIA. That's where I went, and you're pretty much guaranteed a home daily job. It's 5 weeks and cost $4700. I just went there in April this year. I'm home daily with Sodrel and bring home about $950-1050 a week. But I'd advise against Sodrel and going to YRC (a YRC recruiter will actually come in and talk about the company at SDIA) or Old Dominion (Which is where I'm currently trying to get on at) They have 1 hour free seminars most nights for you to check the school out.
