CDL Requirement

    It doesn't matter what the separate vehicles are rated for, it's the combination of the two. Since the trailer is rated at 11,000 then according to the second line on the chart you do indeed need a class A. You've already told us the truck and trailer are a combined GVWR of 31,000, so it shouldn't even be a question

    This is going to be bad news for your boss too as he shouldn't have allowed you to drive this set up. I think a lawyer is in order as this charge will not help you get a CDL.
