I'm a CDL holder, I'm not currently employed in the in the industry.
I'm moving to another state and I want to keep my CDL, do I need to worry about a drug test when I transfer my license? Is drug testing only required when employed? I have a current medical card. For the record,,,,I have no problem not smoking when I need to for work. Thank you, all

You just follow the new state's requirements. Transferring to TX and NM was just some money, a photo, and some time. Transferring to MN involved the regular class D test on top. Moving to IL requires all testing (written and performance).

No state tests drugs as a part of the licensing process, but the CDLIS will soon be fully linked to the Clearinghouse and downgrade drivers who are barred.

That is what I thought. I will have to take the state written test. Drug testing is tied to employment.
    Thanks for the info,,,scott
