Cdl without paying thousands +commitment

I had this novel idea a few years ago...
Find a trucking school that only charges you when you obtain your cdl.
Learn in the classroom, get your permit, learn to drive.
Before you take your test, Quit owing nothing.....
Find a local (From area you got your permit) from 3rd party tester with a truck, get tested & you have a CDL... Bet you could do it for less that $500...

Now the hard part is to find a company willing to take you on.......

In all reality you are better off going to a school, even a driver mill, get your cdl, get some experiance, pay your dues then get a better job...

 

What I did is this....I went to work for an oilfield company took written test, about 32 days after that I used their equipment took driving test and voila no school and no retarded $5k bill to get my license. But that's been 10 years ago, not sure if it still works that way.

 

Another thing to look at is that most of the companies will want you to go through the mill or they will not hire you. To give you an idea.... I have over 6 yrs OTR and still have my CDL. I have been off the road since 03 and in the military now. I ETS from the service in late 2012. That will be 9 years off the road and because I dont have any current OTR ( past 3 yrs ) I would have to go to some type of refresher course.

If you can get your CDL without having to go to the big mills, Try. But good luck getting hired.
