Parking on the shoulder of an Interstate has become common practice, needless to say. Just the other night between Harrisonburg, Va and Winchester, Va, I counted 10 trucks parked on the shoulder of 1-81. In over 58 years out here, I can honestly say that I have never parked on the shoulder of any highway to sleep, I am not that brave.
WildTiger1990, Diesel Dave, Val_Caldera and 3 others Thank this. -
I liked the comment on FB from the driver that said this is why I tell my company I will not drive in CA, or NY. hahaha
I know it can happen in blippersburg too, but it was funny to me. -
I am parked with a couple of trucks on the entrance ramp.....its better than the exit ramp. If you can't get parked at a truck stop or rest area (survival of the fittest parking) before 7 or 8, creative parking is serious ......... on a side note, if I pull into the rest area, I find it aggravating when drivers don't pull up far enough in the parking spots.skallagrime, Val_Caldera, nredfor88 and 2 others Thank this.

The driver is a candidate to be sued in civil court if the right ambulance chaser gets wind of this. Not fair, but look at how things are now a days. Crooks in high places get away with everything, but the little guy trying to eek out a living is held to beyond reproach accountability.

You are not supposed to run into anything while you drive. This is the 4 wheelers fault totally. CHP says if the big rig wasn't parked it would not have been HIT. Sorry, don't work that way. Eastbound on I 10 in pomona ca... there is no way the trucker could have just taken an exit at that place, and parked for a 10 hour break. Park where? He should violated his logs and drove on for 3 more hours to coachella. I betcha he will next time. There may not be a next time. He probably is done driving a big rig, well for that company anyways.
If he is reading this. I advise him to take this break and find a company that doesn't run to calibozo. If you live there MOVE.
This is why I will not drive in ca, ny, nj, chicago, boston, sea, portland, atlanta, miami, those places just don't exist in my world. I'm only aware of them, because they make negative news all the time. The Quest Continues.... God Bless you. Especially in any of these areas. I get chilled thinking about them.Last edited: Aug 12, 2021

My goodness. 58 years? You should tell those guys parked there all your secret parking places. haha. Kidding. The Parking is going to get a lot worse, very soon. They think there are going to be 30,000,000 to 45,000,000 more illegals coming in the next 3.5 years. That is an estimate, (LOW) if you ask me. Can you imagine? Where are all the trucks going to park that its going to take to provide them with their everythings? The 70 is going to have to increase just to find a place to park each night/day/afternoon. I like my 84 plan.

For a few Years before I stepped out of Trucking (early '18), I ran through Hotlanta on the watermelon 400, east side to Forest Park, then I-20W to DFW, TX., and sometimes through Phoenix into Suthun Kookafornia or back thru Hotlanta or to Little Rock, AR. to NC. It was easy to get "used to Hotlanta" since their backups usually started on I-85S.
Construction and Wrecks were consistently common. Just heightened the "adventures".
Other Company Runs had I in Hotlanta, south side at the old T/A, yet i parked a few blocks away at a drop yard. It was quieter. That was with P.T.L.
I gave a go a few times and told the last company "I Don't Want To Go Anywhere I Have Not Been".
Didn't work out too well, so back to Standard Operations.
Been THROUGH New York City on I-95, never Off Highway. Wife drove a little bit with Cardinal Logistics (NC) and Gainey & went to Queens twice as well once through the Bronx to Long Island (L.I.E.). She developed "Out Of Hours" dilemmas (Holiday weekends) and was not anymore sent in. Paper Logs Were Much Better and had LESS WRECKS for over 60+ Years!!
I liked Boston, Parts of Chiraq (specifically LEAVING), Southern Jersey (Northern too bloody crowded), Southern Kookifornia (Born-n-Raised there and split that scene in '85 for NC), Nevada, Wyoming (I-80), Utah (S.L.C.), Idaho (Pocatella) yet never Northern runs in Wintry Times except of course the Northeast (favorite of Large Megas to send Drivers North in Winter), anywhere PA., and especially I-40 Below without south of I-10, Florida, although some Deliveries required such travel.
Disliked Miami, no discovered parking, but 80 miles North on I-95, Flying J, no problem.
Tampa was fun, Orlando = yay, with zero parking at T/A and Flying J (Flying P) because of all the "recreation vehicles and their trailers". The "Oldest Truck Stop In Orlando (or the entirety of Florida), South Side, Pay To Park, Bombed Out Dirt Lot, near Disney World. I found a less noisy spot with nothing but nature on Driver Side.

Very nice, but not for me. Glad you did that in your career. I make a delivery to Long Island NY, Camden NJ, Downtown Houston by the big dome there at that time, all over los angeles, did 5 subaru dealships in downtown seattle, 2 stops for the post office 10 skids for the main post office in San Franbozo, 12 big tote boxes strapped down to the other main post office in Richmond, Oakland, other big cities in CA, OR, WA, NW there. It wasn't worth it, well, listen, not to me. It didn't pay anymore than, here we go, much, much easier loads.
That's just me. Did the watermelon 400 like 6 times. I am happy you enjoyed those. A lot of the places I mentioned as well as yourself, I would not really even go on vacation, maybe Florida, but then again, probably NO. Thank you, Happy Travels.Last edited: Aug 12, 2021

There is no reason, other than medical/mechanical emergency, that you should be parking on the side of the road or on/off ramps. Trip plan better. If you're dumb enough to do it. Then accept it is your fault when you get hit.
drvrtech77 and Bud A. Thank this.
