I am looking at buying one and I see that you can run Quicken and CamScanner and that sort of thing with it.

Does anyone use the Chromebook computer within their truck mobile office?

Chromebook is little more than a hopped -up google chrome browser in a laptop with a cheap price. Best value is a dell, asus, or HP laptop running windows 10 pro with a minimum of 8 gig RAM and SSD. Will run about $400-$700 at Best Buy or online at Tiger Direct. Chromebook is good for surfing the web or watching You Tube, not something to run your business with.

I agree on the SSD and RAM.

SSD really is the way to go. Boots up faster and doesn't have the spinning disc.

And 8 gig RAM is the bare minimum. 16 is better and you can upgrade on your own or have a tech do it. Just make sure the laptop can accept the upgrade.

Also, I'd recommend one with a dual fan design. This will prevent over heating which will significantly reduce life span of your laptop. Unfortunately, these tend to be more expensive.

If you don't want to go this route, there are various devices that help keep laptop temps down. I use one and keep the internals no warmer than 77F. Runs beautifully.

This probably made your decision more complicated but it would be awful to have your device die on you when you really need to get some work done.

Yes Chromebook is completely a web-based system. As long as you are using web-as-Service applications it will work for you. (Quickbooks online, Freshbooks online, etc)
Some hardware is compatible with it, but further research will be required.

Well I'm not really a computer guy, but I like the idea of Chromebook because it's small and it's light.

If for some reason you're not online the way I understand it it will save your work and when you go online it will uploaded to google.

I'm sure that you could use an external hard drive if you wanted to have your own files besides having it saved to Google.

Since you can use Google Documents, Google spreadsheets, Quicken, CamScanner and email, and stream movies and YouTube, I would have thought that would be acceptable.

I was under the impression that you really only need a real actual computer nowadays if you want to edit photos and videos or if you're a hardcore gamer.

You got it. You can do minor editing, they even have online apps for that too. I think they can go longer on a battery charge also.
You’ll probably be happy with it.
I played with the ChromeOS on an older desktop. But I wound up going to a Windows laptop just so I could play some of my old games.
