The biggest polluters (in so many ways) are cities. Think about that.

Actually I don't think they do. Those cars run a pretty clean alcohol based fuel IIRC,

Actually nascar runs 112 octane leaded race gasoline. I've worked around the stuff before, it has a purple dye.

I bet they run very clean, because maximum performance is achieved by getting the most out of fuel...which involves burning as much of it as you can as completely as you can.

    But its still idling.

The weirdest thing I ever seen is there is a small gas station near me that has a torco pump. The race shop we used to buy that stuff at would not pump it into a car because "its illegal so we only pump it into gas cans". But that place, people pull up and pump it straight into the car, i was like WTF?

Turns out that the law that makes it illegal is that it's illegal to put leaded fuel in any car that says "Unleaded fuel only". So its legal to have that pump, and there are some cars that it is legal to put it in. However, 50% or so of the cars fueling there are not legal to fuel up that way, but nobody bothers them. However, the purple dye might if they find a really bored cop!

It's also illegal to pump it right in the car because it's for off-road use only--there's no road-use tax collected on racing fuel.

But... yep, I used to pump Sunoco 110 right into my bike at a little gas station in Bay City (Michigan).

Nascar uses 98 octane unleaded fuel dyed green according to the Sunoco website.
