A driver claims an exemption such as "adverse conditions" or "16 hour short haul". after he claims the exemption, is he required to do any type of editing, other than to state the reason for the exemption??

That's all we have to do. I just annotate the Adverse Driving Conditions with reason. On the 16 hr exemption the ELD asks if we are using it if we are in a day cab. Company does not allow us to use it in a sleeper cab.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Why not? I know companies can make stricter rules or regulations but I do not see the reason.
Does the ELD show a violation, or does just clicking on "Exemption" and stating the reason erase the violation?Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Mine did show a violation for the time I used Adverse Driving Conditions. And it showed the annotation too. When the DOT downloads their copy of the ELD, all it shows is the logs. It shows how many hours on each line, plus any yard moves or PC. It does not highlight any violations. That was not part of the ELD mandate. But the DOT are supposedly trained in what to look for and usually catch the violations .

Good question!
On a related note, does anyone know how often the 16-hour short haul exemption can be used?
I've heard you're able to use another one as soon as you take a 34-hour reset, but I've also heard you can't use more than one within a 7-day period. I haven't been able to find this detail within the regulations anywhere and it would be good to know.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Both times are correct. Once every 7 days, or since the last 34 hour reset.Rideandrepair and Moving Forward Thank this.

So it is possible to use the 16-hour exception twice within seven days if a 34-hour reset happens in between?Rideandrepair Thanks this.
-
Yes. You can do several 16 hour exemptions in a week. Just as long as there is a 34 between each one.

Thank you. I've seen numerous things that make it sound like one per week is the maximum, and it doesn't seem clear in the regulations IMO.Rideandrepair Thanks this.
