We are looking at buying a piece of machinery that happens to come with a 90's Freightliner tractor and drop deck trailer. This is a private purchase for private use in the family.
We would have to drive this across the country hauling a 35,000 pound implement on the trailer. What kind of headaches am I looking at? I do have class A license and good medical (I assume that the CDL is needed due to the GVW of the vehicle). I've read over some of the CMV laws and guidelines-- hoping for some advice.
    Thank you

What do you mean you have a 35,000 lb implement across the country?

Is this for a business or for pleasure.

it's for pleasure. The main piece of this purchase is a military tank, the truck and trailer happen to come with it(we collect and restore various things of that nature). It is a light tank, 35k ish lbs and within legal dimensions.

Sell the truck and trailer, and have it hauled. You'll be way ahead in the long run.

I tend to agree. There is a lot of gray area here. The last thing I want is to get shut down at some scalehouse 2000 miles from home, with no company to back me up.

Yeah I have to agree if it a single move, sell the truck and trailer, pay the $3 a mile to get it moved and out the rest of the money into the tank.

    What kind of tank?

You could always hire a driveaway company to bring the rig and load to you. They would have the operating authority and permits to move it legal, as well as insurance should something go wrong

We would have uses for the truck locally if we got it home-- hauling things to parades, etc. It's an M18 Hellcat.

Nice tank, I know about it from where I grew up near GM.

I understand that some where in South America they are still being used in the military.
