Here is my question. If I have a properly set up antenna swr is around 1.5:1 and no amp or tuning done to either radio, will a 29 ltd or a 19 dx reach farther that the other? Or is the Cobra 29 really THAT much different as far as talking distance?
Cobra 19 or 29?

Please dont buy into the hype, they are pretty well dead even when it all shakes out.
If your dead set on staying within that performance level I would suggest you look into a 25LTD.
Upgrade the finals and have a good shop get your SWR's down to 1.3
Ive seen many 25LTD's that are properly set-up do a nasty on many 19/29's.Stay away from mod kits of any type.
Not sure of your antenna but a Wilson 2K works fantastic at this performance level. -
The Cobra 29 can be "Peaked & Tuned" better than the 19, so between those two, the better choice would be the 29...Both radios from the factory are going to do the same amount of watts, but a shop can do more with a 29, than they can the 19, to get it to preform better!

You can get a helluva lot more modulation out of a Cobra 29. I tuned up one of my old 29's, and sold it to a fellow driver. Everybody accuses him of running a Connex or a Galaxy, lol. Running about 120% modulation out of it.
